There’s nothing better than slipping into a pair of comfy fuzzy lounge socks—especially when temperatures drop. But not all are made equal: Some lose their softness, shrink in the wash, or slide off your feet.
After testing dozens of styles in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab and at home, we found the best gift-worthy pairs that deliver on comfort.
Our top picks:
- Best Overall: Ugg Cozy Chenille Sock
- Best Value: Unboxme Gifts Cloud Socks
- Softest: Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Heathered Socks
- Best Long: Softies Marshmallow Slouch Socks
- Most Comfortable: Bombas Fuzzy Socks
Pros
Cozy and luxe chenille fabric
Minimal shrinkage
Subtle toe seam
Cons
Not as “fuzzy” as some picks
Pricey
UGG's chenille socks deliver the same signature softness you'd expect from their boots. They're not as "fuzzy" as your classic sock, but the plush chenille feels luxe and elevated. At $20 a pair, they’re a bit of a splurge, but many online reviewers said the premium coziness is worth it, and I'd have to agree.
TESTING NOTES: Fuzzy socks don’t always perform as well as traditional pairs in our durability testing, but these stood out. In our wash tests, they showed minimal shrinkage and signs of wear. I was also impressed by the subtle toe seam; while not fully seamless, it felt far less noticeable (and less irritating) than most.
Pros
Thick cuff helps prevent slipping
Lightweight, cloud-like feel
One size stretched to fit a range of sizes
Cons
Some wear on the sole over time
Thinner than other pairs we tested
These plush, cloud-like socks serve up cozy warmth at a budget-friendly price. GH staffer Nicole Papantoniou especially likes the thick elastic cuff, which keeps the socks securely in place without sliding or feeling restrictive.
TESTING NOTES: In our evaluations, the one-size design stretched to comfortably fit a range of foot sizes. The socks are thinner than some styles we tested, and we observed some wear over time, particularly along the sole. Still, their lightweight, non-bulky feel makes them a comfortable choice for everyday wear.
Pros
Thick, fluffy material
Slouchy design
Two sizes
Cons
Raised toe seam felt uncomfortable for some testers
If you’re after a picture-perfect pair of fuzzy socks, this is it. GH staffer Danusia Wnek has purchased several pairs herself and even calls them “the best fuzzy socks I have ever worn.”
TESTING NOTES: This sock barely shrank in our evaluations and even with the slouchy style, it stayed in place on our feet. Consumer testers loved the chic look and fluffy feel, though a few noted that the toe seam felt slightly irritating.
Pros
Soft, midweight fabric
Snug, secure fit
Grippers on bottom
Cons
Some shrinkage in tests
These are some of the longest pairs of fuzzy socks we've tested. You can choose to wear them slouchy or pulled up for added coverage and warmth. They have a snug but comfortable fit with a soft, fuzzy texture that feels cozy without being overly bulky.
TESTING NOTES: In our tests, they shrank a bit in height after washing, but the non-slip grippers added traction without feeling thick or stiff.
Pros
Seamless toe
Multiple sizes
Top-tested sock brand
Cons
Not as “fuzzy” as some picks
Bombas makes some of our favorite socks, thanks to premium features like its seamless toe and cushioned soles. This pair combines plush softness with those thoughtful design details. Unlike most fuzzy socks, you can choose between multiple sizes for a better fit and you won't need to worry about an irritating toe seam.
TESTING NOTES: In our tests, users liked the comfortable fit of these socks, describing them as "just right" but felt mixed on the fuzziness. The fabric felt more lightweight, with a lightly napped texture compared to some of our other picks.

Pros
Soft, lightweight knit
Cushioned sole and toe
Secure, stay-in-place fit
Cons
Some shrinkage after washing.
This isn’t a traditional fuzzy sock, but it’s one of the most comfortable lounge socks we tested. The soft yet structured knit fabric feels cozy without being overly thick, and the cushioned sole and toe add extra padding for all-day wear.
TESTING NOTES: Consumer testers liked the optional scrunch, saying it elevated the look. They found themselves wearing it both at home and outside. We were also impressed by the premium features, like the compression band around the midfoot (which helps keep the sock in place) and the subtle toe seam. Still, we noticed some shrinkage after washing, so the one-size design may not be best suited to those with larger feet.
Pros
Less bulky than tall, slouchy pairs
Comes in a pack of 12
Cons
Less durable than other pairs we recommend
If you prefer a low-cut sock, this pair offers cozy softness without the taller, slouchy look. Plus, it comes in a pack of 12 for easy stocking stuffers or party favors.
TESTING NOTES: Testers liked the shorter height, noting that it felt less bulky than typical crew socks. While we saw mixed results in shrinkage and wear during evaluations, the affordable price is hard to beat.
Pros
Sherpa-lined cozy interior
Sturdy sole with grippy bottom
Cons
Expensive
If you want something warmer and sturdier than your traditional fuzzy sock, this sherpa-lined bootie is a crowd-pleasing upgrade. The plush sherpa lining feels soft and warm, while the slipper-style design provides extra ankle coverage with a grippy sole.
TESTING NOTES: Our testers felt safe while walking on hardwood floors, thanks to the grippy sole, and liked the cozy warmth. One even described the pair as a “special treat to try.” It’s the most expensive style in our roundup, but the durability, warmth, and versatility help justify the higher price.
Pros
Warm and cozy interior
Can be worn indoors or outdoors
Cons
Needs to be line dried
If your feet always feel too cold, even when you turn up the thermostat, check out this pair from Heat Holders. They're lined with soft, brushed sherpa-like acrylic yarn that traps heat to keep your feet toasty warm all winter long and impressed our analysts in Lab evaluations.
TESTING NOTES: Consumer testers were blown away by the comfort and warmth. One called it "nice and cushy" as well as "thick and very warm." The snag is that you'll need to line dry them rather than tossing them in the dryer.
Note that this option is best for those with size 9 feet and under. For those with larger feet, check out the Men's version.

Pros
Fuzzy stay-in-place ankle band and sole
Soft merino wool blend
Thin, lightweight fabric
Cons
Needs to be line dried
Can't fall asleep because your feet are too cold? These socks just may be the solution. Made with a blend of merino wool, Tencel lyocell, nylon, and spandex, the fabric has a buttery soft feel with naturally temperature-regulating properties. There's also a fuzzy stay-in-place ankle band and sole.
TESTING NOTES: Testers highlighted the overall comfort and noted they were great for pairing with pajamas for sleeping and lounging. Plus, they liked how thin and lightweight they felt.
Keep in mind that these socks need to be line dried to preserve their soft feel.
How we test socks

To find the best socks, the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab evaluates dozens of styles each year both in the Lab and with the help of at-home consumer testers throughout the country. In recent years, we've assessed more than 100 pairs and analyzed over 19,000 data points.
In the Lab, our scientists evaluate washability, shrinkage, abrasion resistance, and overall construction. Our consumer testers try out pairs at home and provide feedback on their user experience, from comfort and fit to how the socks fare over time.

Here, in one example of in-Lab testing, our pneumatic bursting strength tester pulls up the fabric of a cut-up lounge sock with increasing pressure to measure the strength needed to "burst" the material.
What to look for when shopping for fuzzy and lounge socks

When you're shopping for fuzzy or lounge socks, there are a few factors you should consider before purchasing a new pair.
✔️ Materials: While most socks are made of cotton or polyester with some added spandex, many options are blended with other fibers. Here are some of the materials you'll often encounter:
- Cotton is known for its soft, breathable feel and natural quality.
- Microfiber polyester is often used for an even softer, almost buttery feel, at the expense of breathability.
- Wool has great natural temperature regulation and moisture-wicking abilities. Merino wool and cashmere are special varieties of wool known for their luxurious natural softness.
- Spandex is used for added stretch so the sock fits on your foot but won't get stretched out.
- Synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon also help add some durability and structure to the sock.
- Manufactured cellulosic fibers like rayon, lyocell, or modal feel silky soft and are often blended with other fibers for their trademark silky feel.
✔️ Additional features: Consider these enhancements for a more elevated version:
- Stay-in-place grips: If you want to wear your socks directly on the carpet or floor, look for socks that have grippers on the bottom for some traction so you don't slip on the floor. If you'd prefer to pair your socks with slippers or slides, opt for styles without grips on the bottom.
- Sizing: If you have larger or smaller feet, socks with multiple sizes can be a game changer, especially if one-size-fits-all socks never fit.
- Type of fuzziness: Some fuzzy socks are napped or brushed for a fleece- or flannel-like fuzziness, while others are lined with sherpa or pile, similar to a robe or towel. If you're particular about the texture, make sure to pay attention to the product description or any available photos.
