White sneakers are like magic—somehow they manage to look stylish with practically any outfit (Casual sweats, cute dresses, tailored pants? Check, check, check!), all while keeping you comfortable when you need to be on your feet all day. Whether you're looking for something sporty, a fashionable pair to wear to the office, or white sneakers that can do it all, I have found a style for you.

Our top picks:

To find the best white sneakers, I consulted our footwear experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab, who have tested all sorts of sneakers for women, from running trainers to walking shoes. Our pros recommended top picks that are available in white from previous tests, and they shared brands that were popular among our consumer testers. I also received recommendations from our GH editors, and I researched trendy, comfortable sneakers. Ahead, find the best white sneakers that deliver both comfort and style.

Pros

  • Can be dressed up or down
  • Sleek and lightweight
  • Popular and trendy

Cons

  • Lack of traction

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Versatile style: Adidas Sambas are an all-around popular shoe that seems to always be in style. "Whether I am in a casual weekend jeans outfit or a more professional work dress, I can always count on these sneakers to pull my look together," said one of our consumer testers. "They're also the shoes I get the most compliments on."

✔️ Comfortable feel: Our consumer tester and several GH editors found Adidas Sambas to be comfortable to walk in, but one person noted that the shoes tend to rub on the back of her heels without the right socks on. While you can be walking around the office all day in these sneakers, one GH editor noted that the lack of traction made it easy to slide on slippery ground (so it may not be the best for a rainy day!).

✔️ Slim and sleek: These sporty shoes run low to the ground and perfectly peek out under slouchy trousers and baggy wide-leg jeans.

Chuck Taylor All Star High Top

Pros

  • Classic, vintage style
  • High-top provides ankle stability
  • Flat bottoms are great for weightlifting

Cons

  • Canvas dirties easily

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Iconic style: It honestly doesn't get more classic than Converse All Stars. The first iteration of this shoe was made in 1917 for basketball, but by the 1970s, the Chuck Taylor All Stars had evolved into the design we know today and gained widespread popularity. They're the perfect vintage throwback and are loved by multiple generations (my dad always says my Converse sneakers remind him of his teenage years!). While the white All Stars are a classic choice for a plain white sneaker, you can even customize the shoe on Converse's website with a white base and add pops of color or embroidered designs.

✔️ Looks good beat-up: If you ask me, Converse sneakers need to be broken in and even a bit dirtied up ASAP. Maybe that's just my opinion, but once they're worn-in more, it helps give the shoes that beloved vintage look. It took four years for my white Converse to finally look too dirty to continue wearing (and I wore them nearly every day), and then I dyed them brown! That said, they're not the easiest to clean since the main part of the sneaker is canvas fabric.

✔️ Great for the gym: Whenever I am weightlifting, I wear my Converse All Stars to the gym. The lace-up, high-top design provides ankle stability, and the flat soles promote balance and proper form while lifting. Even though they're flat, one of our GH editors has found "them great for standing for long hours on my feet and walking a lot" for the last six years.

Pros

  • Off-white shade doesn't show imperfections as easily
  • Great option for wide feet
  • Light feel on feet

Cons

  • Minimal cushioning

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Versatile off-white style: Textiles Lab Associate Director Emma Seymour wears her pair "almost every week," saying, "I also love the off-white color options for a neutral shade that doesn’t show stains as easily." One GH editor called the shoes "versatile" and said, "I can pair them with some laid-back jeans or a summer dress and feel good about it." If you're someone like me who wears mostly ivory and cream colors rather than bright white clothing, an off-white sneaker can be the perfect option for you.

✔️ Slim silhouette that fits wide feet: If you aren't crazy about chunky, thick shoes, these Reeboks have a slim design. We love that they're compact in size, yet comfortably fit narrow, regular, and wide feet despite only being offered in one standard width size. A GH editor with wide feet said these sneakers are "super snug without feeling too tight." There's not much cushioning, so our Textiles Lab pros recommend adding insoles for more comfort.

✔️ Lightweight: One of our GH editors who walks around Manhattan a lot called these sneakers comfortable and "shockingly lightweight." You can throw these sneakers in your suitcase for traveling and know they'll match all your outfits.

Pros

  • Comfortable everyday shoe
  • Long lasting
  • Customization available
  • Thick sole adds a bit of height

Cons

  • Heavy, according to some

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️Durable and easy to clean: White sneakers are inevitably going to look dirtier faster than dark-colored sneakers, but the leather material of these Nikes can withstand a wipe-down with soap and water. I wore these sneakers for years in college, and they got extremely dirty from going out (those frat basements were yucky!), but I was always able to quickly clean them with a wipe. One time, I even fell in mud, but the shoes were salvageable afterwards since they're so durable and easy to clean.

✔️Classic style: Nike Air Force sneakers are one of those shoes that will probably always be in style. I owned a pair years ago, and I still see people wearing them every day (I counted five pairs on the subway this morning!). They're entirely white, which can be hard to come by—a lot of "white" sneakers have black details or other colored logos or accents. (But if you do want to add a pop of color, you can customize each part of the sneaker on Nike's website.) And because it's a classic that's always available, you can purchase a replacement pair down the line if needed. My cousin is such a fan that they're the only sneakers he owns. He rebuys them every few years once he wears out the soles or rips the shoe (he puts them through the wringer outside fishing, woodworking, etc.).

✔️ Comfortable: While these aren't going to be as cushioning and supportive as a running sneaker, they're a very comfortable everyday shoe when you don't want a super sporty look. They have a thick sole that adds a bit of height, too. They can also feel a bit weighty when walking, according to some of our editors.

Footwear with a decorative touch
vivaia square toe lace up satin sneakerina (cristina) in white

Pros

  • Satin ribbon gives the sneakers a girly touch
  • Comfortable to walk in
  • Bottom sole is grippy to prevent slipping
  • Roomy, yet snug

Cons

  • Shoelaces untie frequently

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️Cute design: My style is girly to the max, so the "sneakerina" trend is right up my alley. Sneakers are inherently sporty, and even the classic, plain ones aren't very feminine, but this satin pair from Vivaia with a vintage bowling-shoe-esque vibe almost looks dainty. They even have a satin ribbon for the laces (which untie a bit easily, but that's okay!). You can buy replacement laces in different fabrics and colors. In my opinion, these are the best sneakers to wear with dresses and skirts. The shoe color pictured is light gold, but it looks like ivory in person, and I love that it doesn't look as dirty as bright white shoes if they get worn. The style also comes in round or square toes, and there are lace, embroidered, or satin fabric options.

✔️Supportive for short walks: I am a huge fan of ballet flats, but they aren't always the most comfortable when you'll be doing a lot of walking. These sneakerinas are the perfect happy medium for me: They look elegant, but have a flexible design that makes them better for walking. These were surprisingly comfortable when I went on a two-mile walk through Central Park, making them a shoe that's professional-looking to wear to work but comfortable for lunch-break walks. I also think the square toe gives my toes room to wiggle, but the snug design was great for my narrow feet.

✔️ Grippy traction: While these look like thin shoes similar to ballet flats, these shoes have a grippy rubber sole on the bottom. I had to sprint to the train in Penn Station in these sneakers, and while they're not as supportive as my running shoes, they were way more comfortable than expected. Plus, I didn't slip on a mysterious puddle on the floor, and they were more supportive than my usual girly flats.

XT-6 Unisex Sportstyle Shoes

Pros

  • Great traction for hiking or slippery surfaces
  • Plenty of cushioning
  • Slip-on desig

Cons

  • May fit tight on wide feet

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Trendy style: The XT-6 Sportstyle sneaker, with its rugged features, propelled hiking brand Salomon into the mainstream. I honestly see these shoes on the streets of Manhattan and on TikTok more often than I see them on the trails. However, the white color pictured is typically low in stock since it's the most popular option, so you may have to wait a bit for your size (luckily, three different white options are each slightly different).

✔️ Excellent traction: These sneakers feature thick grips on the bottom that help prevent slipping on wet terrain, whether that be a slippery sidewalk or slick rocks on a mountain.

✔️ Great cushioning: Constructed with EVA cushioning, this shoe is made to be supportive and comfortable for long walks and hikes. Just note that wide feet may want to go a half size up, according to online reviewers.

✔️Slip-on lace system: These sneakers don't have traditional laces. Instead of tying them, you slip the shoes on, then pull and secure the laces into place.

Pros

  • Comfortable for all-day wear
  • Long-lasting quality
  • All-white design

Cons

  • May run big

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Fashion-forward comfort: Marrying chicness with support, Veja's simple white sneakers shake up any casual outfit. Beauty Director April Franzino said, "I've walked countless miles over cobblestones in Europe and rough New York City streets in these, and they (and my feet) have held up beautifully." One of our consumer testers said, "I especially like that you can dress them up or down, and they match with everything." While they are on the expensive side, Franzino said they're "worth the price." Just keep in mind that these shoes offer a flexible fit, and you may want to size down.

✔️ All-white style: I love that these sneakers are entirely white without a trace of a color because it'll perfectly match any outfit. (I'm not a fan of a shoe with a red logo if my outfit is yellow and green!).

Pros

  • Cushioning yet stable
  • Sporty yet cute style
  • Mesh upper allows for better airflow

Cons

  • A bit heavyweight

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Supremely comfortable: These sneakers are made with Saucony's Progrid Technology for extra cushioning. "I usually stay away from lifestyle sneakers because of their stiff feel, but I find these comfortable to wear all day," said Grace Wu, an analyst in the Textiles Lab. "There's a bit more cushion and extra support near the arch." While these sneakers felt heavier than a running sneaker, I found them to be more stable yet still cushioned while standing. So, I liked wearing them at work more so than a running shoe. Keep in mind that this shoe has unisex sizing, and many of the smaller sizes are out of stock at the time of writing.

✔️ Athleisure at its finest: While these look sportier than something like Adidas Samba shoes, they're not necessarily as athletic-looking as Hoka running sneakers. They're the perfect in-between of sporty and chic. The white detailing in suede and leather make the shoe look a bit more casual and girly, so they go great with trousers at work or leggings on a walk. If the all-white design is out of stock in your size, there are more colors available.

✔️ Breathable: While these sneakers have some leather and suede accents, they're also constructed with mesh for some added breathability. Wear them to prevent your feet from getting too sweaty.

HOKA Bondi 9

Pros

  • Extra cushion and bounce for running
  • Comfy for long distances
  • Breathable for feet that tend to run hot

Cons

  • May require some breaking-in

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Cushioning sole: We appreciate the Bondi 9's extra-thick sole for walking and for flat feet. The superb cushioning and bounce makes these sneakers good for running or walking.

✔️ Breathable: We love that this shoe has a mesh upper for added breathability, particularly if your feet tend to get sweaty. One of our GH editors who's a runner said, "I've worn it on 90°F hikes and found that my feet were the only thing that didn't overheat!"

✔️ Lightweight: Our consumer testers who tried the previous model (the Bondi 8s, which are pictured) reported that the shoes are lightweight and supportive as well as offer great stability and traction. One of our testers, who is on their feet all day and has plantar fasciitis, calls these shoes "a game-changer." Our Textiles Lab pros noted that there was a minor break-in period of a few days, though.

✔️ Three width sizes: These shoes come in regular, wide, and extra wide. It's important to have a roomy fit when running to prevent blisters, so the wide size options are ideal for wider feet.

Pros

  • Supportive cushioning
  • Large size range
  • Options with neutral color details

Cons

  • Only one width size available

WHY WE LOVE IT:

✔️ Good cushioning: The shoes are made with a dual-density midsole with the brand's cushioning technology. Our consumer tester said, "I loved these sneakers' chunky design, which looked cute with jeans but felt comfortable while walking around my chemistry lab all day."

✔️ Supportive yet stylish: Similar to the Saucony Progrids, these sneakers have the cushioning and support of an athletic sneaker but feature leather details for a classier style. (Note that the leather is pigskin, according to the brand.) This sneaker has some upper mesh areas for breathability, and I think the mesh sections are more discreet than other sporty sneakers. If you like bits of neutral colors in your white sneakers, these shoes have an option with the logo and details in silver or sections in brown.

✔️ Comfortable sizing: One of our testers with wide feet found this shoe to fit their feet well and said they had no blisters after long walks. We love that this sneaker offers a huge size range, from a women's 5.5 to an 18.5, although there is only one width size available.

How we choose the best white sneakers for women

double line break

Our pros in the Good Housekeeping Textiles Lab recommended these white sneakers based on past tests of shoes and research on popular brands. We also included styles loved by our staffers and editors, who are a mix of runners, walkers, and fashionistas.

When testing footwear, our fiber scientists evaluate comfort, fit, and support from consumer tester surveys. We also have podiatrists look at each footbed cut in half to determine if the shoe provides sufficient support and stability. In our latest walking sneaker test, we had over 500 data points to analyze from 150 workout sessions to determine the top-performing brands.

Why trust Good Housekeeping?

The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab includes footwear experts who have tested and written about all types of shoes, including walking shoes, running shoes, ballet flats, loafers, and more.

Editorial Commerce Editor Isabella Cavallo wrote this roundup of the best white sneakers. She regularly reviews footwear, from running sneakers to slip-on shoes. She's a runner and active gymgoer, but she is also always on the hunt for cute sneakers. To write this roundup, Cavallo tried some of these sneakers herself, polled other editors to gain insight on their favorite white sneakers, researched popular white shoes, and spoke with the pros in the Textiles Lab.

Cavallo consulted Emma Seymour, who is the associate director of the Textiles Lab. Seymour recommended picks from past tests and her knowledge of footwear. She pairs her industry knowledge with her Fiber Science and Apparel Design degree from Cornell University.
