We have excellent news for fantasy fans: It's finally time to head back to Prythian!

During Sarah J. Maas's highly anticipated appearance on the March 4 episode of Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, the bestselling romantasy author announced not one, but two new installments in her popular A Court of Thorns and Roses series.

Best of all, they're coming back-to-back, with ACOTAR 6 dropping on October 27, 2026, followed by ACOTAR 7 on January 12, 2027. It's been more than five years since the last book, which was released in February 2021.

In addition to this exciting news, the nearly two-hour interview was full of fascinating tidbits about beloved characters and Maas's writing process. The normally private author also opened up about everything from her upcoming “Sarah’s Eras” 40th birthday party to the impact of her experience with pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood on her writing career.

Where can I preorder the new ACOTAR books?

Preorder links just went live on retailers like Amazon and Barnes and Noble, as well as the publisher's official site, where they're slightly discounted. We'd recommend shopping now so you won't have to stress about securing your own copy on release day.

What are the new ACOTAR books about?

Maas's lips were sealed when it comes to the covers, titles, and plot lines of her two new books, but fans are already theorizing. In the comments of Maas's announcement post, we spotted discussion that the blue and pink heart emojis used in her caption might correspond to either the characters that will be featured in the new installments or the colors of the book covers (though, these theories haven't been confirmed).

Some readers have speculated that the novels might be told from the perspective of Elain, the third Acheron sister, while others think the sixth book might serve as a "bridge novel" to conclude Nesta's story from the fifth installment, A Court of Silver Flames, before turning to different characters in the seventh book. This is similar to the way the fourth novella, A Court of Frost and Starlight, had a particularly heavy focus on Nesta ahead of her official book. (Again, this is all speculation.)

While Maas was mum on the plot direction these new titles might take, she shared that the new books are meant to be read as a "massive, massive story as opposed to a trilogy." She also revealed that a summer spent in Big Sky, Montana helped her find the inspiration she needed to pen her new book.

"It took me a while to find the right story and to be in the right head space. And then what poured out of me was this, and it poured out very quickly."

How long will the new ACOTAR books be?

Bloomsbury, the publisher of the ACOTAR series, posted the official listings for the two new titles, which included page counts. The publisher says ACOTAR 6 will be 352 pages, and the seventh book is slated to be a whopping 928 pages (though these could change during final edits).

During the episode, Maas revealed that she actually intended for the books to be one long novel, sharing that she chose to take an non-traditional approach to writing this installment.

"Part one was this huge, huge thing,” she told Cooper. “Then I realized it was gonna be four parts. A book told in four parts, so then I wrote part two, and part three..."

She went on to explain that her story eventually got so lengthy, it had to be divided into multiple books.

"It's basically gonna be three physical volumes, but it's one thing altogether that no amount of glue in like any publisher's factory could ever hold this."

Where should I start with Sarah J. Maas's novels?

If you're not familiar with the series, you have plenty of time to catch up before the sixth book comes out in October. A Court of Thorns and Roses is a loose Beauty in the Beast retelling. It follows Feyre, a human who is taken into the world of the Fae and the Spring Court after killing a wolf who turns out to be a powerful Fae. Without spoiling subsequent books, we follow Feyre as she slowly becomes integrated into an influential royal court, with the universe expanding to explore the lives of her sisters.

Once you finish those, try Maas's other series: Throne of Glass, which chronicles a teenage assassin fighting for freedom in a magical world, and Crescent City, an urban fantasy following a half-Fae searching for answers about the murder of her best friend. Each of Maas's series is connected, so it's best to devour them all!

We'll keep this post updated as we learn more information about the new ACOTAR books.
