The sequel to the iconic film The Devil Wears Prada hit theaters on May 1.

Scattered throughout the film are references to its predecessor.

Twenty years after the debut of The Devil Wears Prada, audiences everywhere have been gifted with the return of the world of Runway magazine in The Devil Wears Prada 2. This time, while Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is no longer a naive assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), still some things have still remained the same.

Between all of the designer labels, pr clean up, and runway shows that makeup the sequel, director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (who are the same from the previous film!!) were able to sneak in some pretty iconic nods to the original. Some of them are pretty subtle, so if you didn’t spot them immediately when you saw the movie in theaters, you’ll want to rewatch as soon as it hits streaming services.

We meet Andy Sachs again almost exactly where we left her. The film opens similarly to it’s predecessor with Andy getting ready for the day and brushing her teeth in the mirror.

A sweet friendship forms between Nigel and Andy while he decks her out in designer from the fashion closet in the first film. Similarly, we get another fashion closet moment in the new movie, with Nigel helping Andy prep for a weekend at the Hamptons with Miranda.

Miranda’s iconic line from The Devil Wears Prada is probably one of the most quoted moments in the film.

In the the new movie, she appears to have changed her tune as the theme of the Met gala becomes spring florals. If you look really closely, you can see “Spring Florals” printed on banners hung outside of the museum.

Andy’s glow up in the first movie was marked by her acquiring Chanel boots and this memorable newsboy hat moment.

Fans of this look will be happy to see Andy dressed an updated version complete with a black newsboy cap, plaid neck tie, long beaded necklaces, and dark sunglasses in the newest film.

We all recall Miranda’s biting speech that educated Andy on the origins of her “lumpy blue sweater.”

Now, a reimagined version of that look made it to the sequel. Instead of a long sleeved sweater, Andy sports a chic cerulean sweater vest over a white collared blouse in the ending scene of the film. We love when things come full circle!
