The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special aired on Disney+ on March 24.

Star Miley Cyrus got the ultimate surprise when Selena Gomez appeared on the special.

Fans had a moment of nostalgia seeing Miley and Selena back together again.

It’s officially been 20 years since Hannah Montana premiered on Disney Channel, and one special person decided to help Miley Cyrus mark the occasion.

When Hannah Montana premiered its first episode on March 24, 2006, no one could have expected it to become a cultural phenomenon. With Miley portraying both the titular character and her alter ego, Miley Stewart, fans got the opportunity to see the singer and actress become an international superstar in real time. Plus, other future stars often made an appearance on Hannah Montana … including Selena Gomez, who played Hannah’s rival, Mikayla.

Well, Miley got quite a surprise from Selena when filming the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, out now on Disney+. As Miley sat on the couch in the show’s living room set, she was shocked to see Selena appear from backstage to greet her with a hug. The duo got sentimental about working together on Hannah Montana.

“Honestly, I thought that this would overwhelm me more, and that I would feel super emotional and not be able to control the tears,” Miley explained in a clip posted on X. “But it’s actually been just really fun.”

“That’s so cool!” Selena responded earnestly. “This is so wild … you created culture, babe.”

Given that it’s been so many years since fans last saw Miley and Selena together, this surprise reunion left them emotional on social media.

“They mothered a whole generation. This is our childhood in one place ❤️,” one person commented on X.

“Two icons, one stage, friendship and nostalgia shining brighter than fame,” another wrote.

“Wait, I got goosebumps watching this!!! Love when legends meet up!!! wow 💙💙,” a different follower added.

Fans may be aware that Selena wasn’t the only surprise guest on the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. Miley’s dad (and former co-star) Billy Ray Cyrus also popped up on the set, along with Chappell Roan, and plenty more.

These reunions have us reliving our own Hannah Montana days all over again!
