Personalize your own human-sized Croc costume with Jibbitz and all! Using a sheet of cardboard, trace and cut out the shape of a Croc using an X-Acto knife or box cutter. Cut one large hole in the upper center for your face and cut seven smaller holes around it. Cut another strip of cardboard and fold the edges to create your strap. Paint your Croc and strap with craft paint, making sure to give it a few coats. Attach your strap using hot glue and outline your Croc with a lighter or darker shade of paint so it pops. Use felt, craft foam, or paper to create your Jibbitz and then hot glue them all. Once everything is dry, attach backpack-style straps to the back of the shoe with thick ribbon and hot glue. Every friend in the group has their go-to martini. Why not turn it into a DIY costume idea? Trace the outline of a rainbow-type shape on a thin clear acrylic sheet. Paint a thin coat on the plastic, leaving the top five inches paint-free. Allow the paint to dry. Then, attach velcro to the overlapping section and wear the cone loosely around your neck. To create an olive cocktail, blow up two small green balloons and cut out two small red circles out of felt. Attach them to the top side of the balloon and tie both balloons to a dowel. Create espresso beans using floral foam rectangles and a serrated knife to mimic the bean shape. Create a deeper groove down the center and wipe off any dust with a paper towel. Paint the bean with brown acrylic paint and attach the beans to a headband with hot glue once dry. To create a lime, cut a circle out of dark green craft paper and attach it onto a larger green decorative paper fan with hot glue. Cut a slit where the fan opens to resemble a lime on the edge of a glass.

It feels like tinned sardines are everywhere—on decor, clothing, and even purses. Embody the trend with this homemade costume. To start, cut two large rectangles from cardboard sheets with a craft knife or box cutter. Round the edges of each corner to create a tin box shape. Cut out a rectangular opening with two fish head-shaped cut outs. Leave space in between the fish heads for your face to peek through. Paint the front and back of each rectangle with a few coats of craft paint and let dry completely. Paint details for the “tin” with craft paint. Add googly eyes, cupcake liner scales, and silver pipe cleaners to the fish heads using hot glue. Attach a roll of gray paper to the front of the tin, and add a “key” made from more pipe cleaners. Secure the two sheets of cardboard together with straps that will rest on your shoulders.

Bird Halloween Costume

homemade halloween costumes, small girl wearing a white shirt, white leggings, a white mask and diy white wings
Mike Garten

Turn your child into an eye-catching bird with striking wings to match. You need a white shirt and leggings, a white mask form, a cardboard box, white and metallic silver cupcake liners, white coffee filters, and tape (double-stick tape, gaff tape or strong duct tape).

Follow these steps to make your own:

  1. Fold the cupcake liners and coffee filters in half.
  2. Cut out two oval wing shapes out of your cardboard box.
  3. Starting on one side, attach the coffee filters with tape, while overlapping them to create a ‘feathered’ look. Splay it out on one end to create a wing shape.
  4. Add smaller cupcake liners for extra texture and make sure to mix in a few silver liners so sections pop.
  5. Make a tube out of cardboard and use gaff tape to secure it to the back of the 'wing.'
  6. Hide the cardboard base by covering the backside of the wing with more coffee filters and cupcake liners.
  7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the other wing.
  8. Use tape to layer small-folded cupcake liners on your white mask form to create the tighter/smaller feathers that would be on a bird’s face.

Disco Ball Halloween Costume

homemade halloween costumes, disco ball diy made of aluminum foil

You'll be the center of attention in this costume, which comes together with a cardboard box and some aluminum foil.

Here are the steps:

  1. Cut two large circles from the cardboard box.
  2. Spray paint both sides of the circles with silver spray paint and let dry completely.
  3. While this dries, cut out 1"x2" foil rectangles.
  4. Tear 1/2" wide strips of duct tape and place foil rectangles on the sticky side, so the majority of the foil hangs off (so it looks like a banner of flags).
  5. Starting at the bottom, stick the tape/foil banner across the silver cardboard circle, so the layer above overlaps with the layer below. This will create a tiled effect.
  6. Trim or fold back the tape around the edge of the circle to maintain the round "disco-ball" shape.
  7. Complete two circles for the front and back.
  8. To create shoulder and chest straps, measure the length of nylon webbing needed before cutting and placing two strips of the duct tape's sticky side together.
  9. Tape the straps to the cardboard's front and back, so you can easily slip it over your head.
