Millions of trick-or-treaters may need to bundle up this Halloween. The holiday forecast calls for a mix of chilly temperatures, gusty winds, and rain across parts of the country, with possible mountain snow in some western areas on Saturday, October 31.
While much of the East Coast is expected to stay dry on Halloween, some regions could see less-than-ideal conditions for outdoor festivities. Here's what to know about the Halloween weekend weather forecast, according to AccuWeather predictions.
Halloween weekend weather forecast
Thursday, October 29: Chicago, Detroit, and much of the Great Lakes region can expect brisk, chilly conditions. Showers could move through parts of the Northeast, including Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia. And rain is possible in the Pacific Northwest and southern Texas.
Friday, October 30: Parts of the Southwest and Rocky Mountains, including areas near Salt Lake City, Phoenix, and Albuquerque, could see rain and mountain snow. Breezy, cold conditions are expected to persist across the Northeast, while Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh should experience mostly dry weather. Showers may develop during the evening across the Florida Peninsula and Pacific Northwest, with strong wind gusts possible in the Dakotas.
Saturday, October 31: Trick-or-treaters from Detroit to Boston may need jackets, but most of the East Coast should avoid rain. Farther south, showers and possibly thunderstorms could disrupt Halloween plans around Dallas and Oklahoma City. Southern Florida, including Miami, could also see showers and stormy conditions.
Meanwhile, breezy weather is expected across parts of the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, including Billings, Rapid City, and Minneapolis. Gusty winds could make already chilly conditions feel even colder. Parts of the Southwest and central Rockies may also experience below-average temperatures, with mountain snow threatening some areas.
What else should I know?
There's another potential weather concern to watch before Halloween: a possible tropical system near the Gulf Coast.
AccuWeather meteorologists are monitoring a possible tropical system moving across northern Mexico and toward the western Gulf around October 29 and 30. If the system develops and tracks in this direction, it could bring periods of heavy rain to parts of southern Texas, including areas near Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley.
With conditions varying considerably by region, it's worth checking your local forecast before heading out for Halloween festivities. If you're planning to trick-or-treat, consider layering a warm jacket under your costume, bringing an umbrella if rain is in the forecast, and keeping an eye on changing conditions throughout the weekend.
