There’s always a home project on the docket, or at least an idea marinating in the back of your mind as a “someday” to-do. Recent data collected from Taskrabbit has pinpointed a surprising surge in one particular home project, though, and it has nothing to do with renovating your space or even making big aesthetic updates.

Everyone’s Clamoring for Home Organization

According to Taskrabbit’s new data, which compared request trends year over year from January through July, home organization is at the tippy top of the list for many. The home services platform noted a 188% increase in apartment organization, along with a 91% increase for bathroom organization, and 71% increase for kitchen organization.

Those with small spaces and apartments, in particular, zeroed in on these requests. While other home projects are still a priority, the mighty surge makes sense.

When square footage is limited, there’s fewer places for clutter to hide and a greater need for a functional space. And since the task is daunting for many (it’s hard to know where to begin!) bringing in a professional to implement clever solutions is a big win and a big relief. Even those who aren’t renters could use the helping hand.

More Popular Home Projects

Taskrabbit identified additional home projects gaining momentum right now. Ambient lighting was high on the list—a likely response to the collective “big light” fatigue. From under-cabinet lighting to plug-in sconces (both up 98%), these requests are all nixing overstimulating spaces and instead creating a cozier, more welcoming home.

Another notable Taskrabbit trend was making over otherwise boring walls. People are asking for assistance in installing temporary wallpaper (up 50%) or adding wall decals (up 39%). Custom floating shelves and help arranging gallery walls, up 32% and 20% respectively, can also fight the bare wall doldrums.
