A lot goes into planning a wedding, but the memories that will last a lifetime stem from the day on which you say "I do." Whether you hire a professional photographer or rely on friends and family to take snapshots throughout the special day, having a wedding album to store each moment is a meaningful heirloom to look back on months later or on your first anniversary.
We researched and tested the best wedding albums of 2023, from popular photo book makers to affordable albums you can purchase from online retailers. We also spoke with wedding photographers to learn which online services they recommend for couples, as well as gather input on designing the album — after all, your wedding album is your first family heirloom so you want it to be just right.
Our top picks:
From photo book makers to physical albums, there are a lot of avenues to pursue when selecting the perfect wedding album. "It needs to stand the test of time," says Abby Jiu, the popular wedding photographer behind Abby Jiu Photography. "Take the time and extra effort to customize it. It's the one thing you'll take from home to home over the years and something you'll want everyone who comes over to open."
Consumer- and professional-focused online services make it easy to design a unique album that tells the story of you and your partner. Popular photo book services like Artifact Uprising, Shutterfly and Mpix let you upload photos from your wedding day into a book you can then personalize. Get creative and DIY your album by including candids from the night as well as photos of the smaller details like color palette and cover material. An album tells a story: "You get to write it the way you want it to be remembered," says Jocelyn Voo, owner and photographer at Everly Studios.
At the end of this shopping guide, you'll find more information on what to keep in mind when searching for a wedding album. If you and your S.O. don't already have a wedding album or you're looking for a meaningful present for newlyweds, any one of these albums would make a great gift for the couple in your life (or you two!).
If you're looking for a photo book as iconic as the precious pictures you'll keep inside of it, Artifact Uprising's Signature Layflat Photo Album is a perfect choice. It's made of ultra-thick pages and has great construction — our experts love how high-quality the finished product is.
The company offers dozens of customization options that let you personalize the book's cover materials, size, foil color, design, end sheets and paper type. "They also have a service where they will design your album for you based on your favorite images that you send to them," says destinations wedding photographer Jessica Feiden.
Several Good Housekeeping editors, including the GH Institute's Chief Technologist Rachel Rothman and Digital Director Lauren Matthews, personally used this album for their wedding photos and love the final product.
Hop on to Shutterfly's easy-to-use website to create your own personalized album in just a few clicks. Our experts love Shutterfly's robust library offerings and how simple it is to sync photos and customize any album to fit your desires. For between $25 and $30 dollars (before additional sales), you can choose from a variety of sizes and styles to make the perfect coffee table piece that will be shipped to you quickly.
Although still a bargain price, we have included less expensive albums on this list as well — but the wide offerings makes this service a great value for what you get. The Good Housekeeping Institute's Executive Textiles Director Lexie Sachs loves the value of these albums, and says there's a great assortment of designs.
Physical albums hold significant meaning for the couple and their family members to flip through for years to come, but they can take up space on your bookshelf. Enter: Aurora's Carver frame. With this super sleek, minimalist frame you can store all of your wedding photos in once place. It has an HD display and includes free, unlimited cloud storage.
You'll need to have a Wi-Fi connection to set up the frame, but once you download the app, available for both iOS or Android, you can instantly add photos. You can also invite others to add photos and even videos, allowing guests to pitch in and share snippets from the night. The frame has an almost perfect rating online, and one five-star review says they purchased a second frame "for my son and his bride so that we can relive their wedding day and life as it progresses."
Planning a themed wedding with an air of cottage core? Purchase a wedding album that has a cover to match the photos you'll find inside. This Amazon's Choice vintage album has a 4.7-star rating thanks to over 2,300 online customer reviews praising the quality and beauty of the book.
Choose from three sizes and two colors, a dark green and reddish brown. The leather cover has intricate designs that exude old world charm. We appreciate how easy it is to add photos to this album: Simply lift the transparent overlay, arrange photos and memorabilia (while leaving some space between photos so the sheet can stick to the cardboard), slowly lower down overlay and smooth out.
Voo, who specializes in elopements and intimate weddings, says her album printer of choice is RedTree Albums. Note: The company only caters to professional photographers, so as a consumer you won't be able to personally design and place the order.
However, if you've already hired a photographer for the special day and want to take the hassle out of putting together a book, hiring the same photographer to also help you design a wedding album may be the way to go.
"The craftsmanship on their products is impeccable, and in my mind, well worth the hefty price for an heirloom product that's meant to last generations," says Voo. Alongside your photographer you can browse paper types, sizes and cover materials. Price depends on the type of album and customizations you chose. Premium albums can run as high as in the four figures, says Voo, but Queensberry Albums and Serendipity Albums are two professional services that offer more affordable albums starting in the low hundreds, she adds.
For under $100, you can customize a traditional layflat photo album. Choose between seven sizes, four cover materials, various colors, and thick or thin pages. You can also increase the page count in increments of five starting at 10 and ending at 50, helping you avoid leftover pages at the end. If you want to customize your book further, add embossing or foil stamping on leather and linen covers.
The manufacturer recommends avoiding faces or important details in the center of a panoramic spread as that's where the book will fold when closed. One of the 164 online custom reviews says, "The picture quality was absolutely fantastic! It was half the cost to create our own rather than ordering one through our photographer!" It may not be the least expensive layflat option on this list, but its quality and bevy of customizable options make it a great value.
For a professional album that you can design yourself, try PikPerfect which lets you choose the occasion, size, cover material and page count before uploading your photos. The book will then be professionally printed and bound, plus you can try their design service if curating on your own becomes too much.
What we love most about the service is the option to make smaller duplicates of your wedding album to share with friends and family. "Making multiple albums at the same time is an easy way to create thoughtful thank you gifts," Voo says. You, your partner and your loved ones can travel back in time to the moment you said "I do" with this affordable book.
Keep it basic with Zola's Classic Wedding Album, or upgrade to its Premier ($189) and Deluxe ($319) options if desired. With the classic layflat album, choose from 15 different linen options, including neutrals as well as brighter, more unique hues like sage, burgundy and midnight blue.
You can also choose from three square sizes and two landscape sizes — plus soft gloss or satin for the page type. Use the Album Wizard tool to quickly pick and arrange photos before you can go in and edit as you wish. Although rather basic in design, the simple look is timeless and one you will cherish forever.
Commemorate your special day with a photo album from Mixbook, which offers dozens of affordable design options. Not only will you be able to find a book style that matches the theme of your wedding, but the website is ultimately pretty easy to navigate so you won't get lost amongst its many options.
Simply upload your favorite pictures directly to the site, then explore different layouts, stickers and backgrounds to bring a little personality to your album. Our testers loved the wide variety of styles and were impressed by the quality for the value.
This handcrafted layflat album is a beautiful heirloom statement piece that you can proudly leave on display in your living room, and even one day pass down to any children. Featuring a luxurious leather cover and personalized debossing, it looks (and feels!) expensive, but is more affordable than some of the most high-end albums on the market.
Pick from a variety of colors, styles, fonts and themes to create something that reflects you and your partner's true style. "It's very user-friendly, offers lots of wonderful great products and the professional quality comes at a fraction of the cost," says Feiden.
If you're in the market for a small photo book to show off your memories, Snapfish's softcover photo books have your number. While these photo books aren't those luxury centerpieces with a velvet or leather cover, they are a great value and easy to carry around when visiting grandparents or friends.
Choose from a regular or matte softcover and customize the size and binding to your liking. Snapfish's site lets you easily upload photos from social media, so you can also include all those behind-the-scenes pictures your wedding guests shot that truly capture your wedding experience.
These digitally made wedding albums are great for newlyweds who have a ton of pictures on their smartphones that they're hoping to incorporate into their book. You can upload images directly from your phone (or the phones of your guests) to Chatbooks' portal when you use the company's mobile app.
Its premium layflat book is perfect for landscape shots and has high-quality, matte paper that feels amazing in your hands (it's five times the thickness of the company's classic photo books).
"The category of make-your-own wedding photo albums has improved tremendously over the last few years," says Rachel. Our analysts love how easy it was to navigate the website and how beautifully the finished product turned out.
Blurb offers dozens of photo book designs to choose from and even lets you scroll through other users' albums for inspiration. One such example is Blurb's Our Daughter's Wedding Day album, a perfect template for parents of the bride. (Remember, you're not the only one who will want to display some of the best pictures from the wedding!)
The price for this particular album depends on the type of cover you select, but rings in at over $100 regardless. Other albums also fall around the same price, with an under $1 charge for each additional page. With Blurb, your album can be as simple or luxurious as you want — choose from five sizes, three cover styles and eight paper types.
If you're looking for something a little different to hold your precious memories in, take a look at Velvet Raptor's personalized album. Featuring a luxurious velvet cover with hand de-bossed words in their custom vintage letterpress Caslon font, this classic piece will look as wonderful as the pictures it stores.
Pick from eight different opulent colors and two album sizes to truly personalize your photo book. Choose to de-boss the cover with your initials, names or the date of your special day. Velvet Raptor recommends storing your album in a slip case to protect the cover.
This classic slip-in wedding album has thousands of five-star reviews on Amazon — and it's no wonder, given that it stores 600 photos, so no memory has to go unseen. Not only is it easy to slip your favorite printed images inside, but it also has a front panel that's perfect for sliding in a special cover photo.
The large format size will look great on your coffee table for flipping through whenever you have some downtime and are feeling sentimental. The stitched leather cover looks lovely and has great texture too. Each page holds five images in a waterproof transparent pocket.
An album that features wood, leather and metal, this is a great option for a creative couple. You can personalize the unique cover with 3D text of your name, the date or your monogrammed initials. The inside pages are stored in a three-ring binder, so it's easy to flip through (or add or subtract pages at will).
Price depends on the size of sheet and how many pages you want. For $53 you'll get thirty 8.5x6-inch pages while the larger books costs anywhere between $81 and $123. The pages come without fixed photo corners, so you'll be able to design the layout to your own liking and use both horizontal and vertical images. Use any extra space to write down names or important memories so you won't forget anything from your special day.
Milk Book's hefty Leather Photo Album is truly a work of art. Depending on the size you order, it might not be easy to slip into your bag and take with you to show off to friends, but it's certainly an item you'll want to display in your home for decades to come.
The handcrafted album features a premium Milano leather cover, is available in six sizes and can be personalized with many different cover fabrics and cover designs. Store your one-of-a-kind book in a beautifully crafted presentation box to keep it safe. The layflat flush-mount binding means each image is printed perfectly on every page, and is a joy to flip through.
For a sturdy album that will stand the test of time, check out Printique's Metal Cover Photo Album. Our testers say it stood out due to its heat- and water-resistant metal cover. This photo book is remarkably easy to customize — choose from a variety of vegan-leather cover colors, book shapes, sizes, paper types and thicknesses to create your special wedding album.
Your cover image will be infused into metal to make it glossy and durable. Once you've planned your cover, scroll through the many pre-designed wedding templates to figure out the right layout for you, and simply upload your favorite images to make it your own. Good Housekeeping's Senior Parenting and Relationships Editor Marisa LaScala loves how thick the pages are and how well the photos reproduce on them.
What to look for when choosing a wedding album

When deciding which wedding album makes most sense for the story you want to tell, keep the following things in mind:
✔️ Page count: The number of pages in an album is one of the most important factors to consider. Some albums have a set number of sheets, while others have a minimum and maximum with adjustability in between. "The page count may also affect what album size or orientation that is available to you as well as the quality/type of paper and paper thickness that you can use," explains Feiden.
✔️ Paper type: Most photo album services offer a selection of paper types, from thick vs. thin options to matte, luster and glossy paper. Thicker paper will be more durable but higher quality paper does come at a higher price.
✔️ Orientation: Think about the orientation the majority of your photos will be taken, typically landscape or portrait. Some albums are also square in shape. If you prefer landscape images and want a layflat album to showcase a panoramic image, go for a landscape orientation. Meanwhile, if you want the focus on portraits of different family members, a vertical orientation may make more sense.
✔️ Material: The cover material is important as it's the part of the album you and others will probably see the most. Popular materials include linen, vegan leather and real leather as well as metal and wood.
✔️ Color: The number of cover colors you can choose from typically depends on the type of cover material you opt for. For example, if you select a leather-bound album then you'll probably have a selection of warm tans and browns to pick between, while a linen cover may have more fun colors available. Of course, some albums are only available in one or two colors.
✔️ Price: Our research suggests you can find an affordable album for as little as $10 to under $50. Other albums will cost more, ranging from $150 to $260 to over $500. How much you spend depends on your budget and which quality materials or add-ons you want to prioritize.
How to create a wedding album

Before you start arranging photos in your album, think about the narrative you want to tell and the details you want to include to set the scene. Select shots of the dress, shoes and cake or images and portraits of you and important family members if you want a special focus on friends and family. Why not choose a few funny candids of you grooving on the dance floor if you want future generations to laugh at Mom and Dad way back when?
Once you have all the images you want to include in the album, group the photos by event and place them in chronological order. From there, let your creative juices guide decisions on templates, color palettes and more. "I also say design the inside first and then work on the cover," Feiden says. "Sometimes the inside design and the color palette of the day can help you decide what you want the cover to look like."
