Top 1,000 Baby Girl Names Right Now

But, just bubbling under, there’s a bunch of new baby girl name trends that are causing some names to rise and other names to fall, accfording to data from the Social Security Administration (SSA). For those looking for their own baby names, popularity of a name is important to consider, since it helps determine that sweet spot of not-too-common and not-too-out-there. With that in mind, these are the most popular and trending baby girl names in the United States this year.

The Most Popular Baby Girl Names Right Now (With Meanings)

When the SSA released the most recent list of the most popular names, these ever-popular names were at the top of the list.

Olivia, "olive tree"
Charlotte, "free man"
Emma, "universal"
Amelia,"hardworking"
Sophia, "wisdom"
Mia, "mine"
Isabella, "pledged to God"
Evelyn, "desired"
Sofia, "wisdom"
Eliana, “God has answered”

These are almost the exact same 10 names as the year before—Eliana is the only name that’s new to the list, leapfrogging over Ava. Charlotte crept up from No. 4 to No. 2, and Mia and Sophia switched places, but the top 10 names remain stable.

The Trendiest Girl Names (With Meanings)

Where things start to get interesting, though, is the SSA's list of fastest-rising names, which are the names that took the biggest jumps in popularity since the list before. They are:

Klarity, “clearness”
Rynlee, invented name
Ailanny, “chief”
Naylani, “heavenly”
Madisson, “son of Matthew”
Liora, “my light”
Merritt, “boundary gate”
Jaslyn, “jazz” plus “lake”
Kyomi, “clear beauty”
Alara, “water fairy”

It’s clear that parents love to load up on the vowels—names like Analeia, Eliora, and Elara are also on the list of big climbers. And here’s where parents like to experiment, since, in addition to Madisson, names with alternate spellings like Kollyns and Elouise seem to be making it big.

Ailany Is Everything

In 2022, the name Ailany didn’t even rank on the SSA’s list of a thousand names. In 2023, it crept onto the list at No. 857, hit No. 101 in 2024, and is all the way up at No. 14 this year. Talk about a meteoric rise!

Not only that, lots of names with the -lany or -lani suffix are riding Ailany’s coattails. It’s only fitting or a name that means “chief.”

Aylani (No. 14)
Leilani (No. 60)
Kehlani (No. 149)
Alani (No. 161)
Kaylani (No. 185)
Kailani (No. 253)
Malani (No. 374)
Kalani (No. 387)
Melany (No. 399)
Nalani (No. 414)
Jaylani (No. 471)
Kailany (No. 581)
Meilani (No. 591)
Leilany (No. 696)
Keilani (No. 727)
Laylani (No. 769)
Elani (No. 844)
Naylani (No. 897)
Khalani (No. 904)
Leylani (No. 971)

For the past decade, the top girl names have been dominated by the -ia ending, as in Olivia, Sophia, and Mia. But the -lani and -lany names are not far behind, and I predict a takeover.

Unisex -ie Names Are Inspired by Pop Culture

A name that jumped a whopping 195 place in rank last year? Andie. (Pretty in Pink fans should be so pleased.) Andie’s rise points to a naming trend that’s just bubbling under, but ready to turn white hot: the neutral-to-masculine name, what Babylist describes as "Dad names," with -ie endings for girls. These include:

Scottie (No. 126)
Charlie (No. 133)
Stevie (No. 203)
Frankie (No. 552)
Billie (No. 691)
Colbie (No. 881)

The name Charlie pops up a few times on the SSA list, first at No. 133 by itself, then as Charlee at No. 417, Charli (No. 496), Charley (No. 760), and Charleigh (No. 811). Between Billie and Charlie, is there a pop-music connection?

Charli XCX and Billie Eilish don’t just set trends in music—they could be influencing baby names.

Pop Culture Names

The biggest pop-culture player of all, of course, is Disney. And as Disney kids have grown into Disney adults, they've made character names trend on the SSA list. Right now, you can find lots of rankers based on Disney princesses.

Aurora (No. 15)
Jasmine (No. 206)
Ariel (No. 356)
Raya (No. 369)
Briar (No. 400)
Tiana (No. 598)
Nala (No. 865)

And they're not the only pop-culture royals on the chart: Zelda is sitting pretty at No. 832.

On the small screen, if there's one television show launching more baby names than any other, it's Bridgerton. The baby-naming website Nameberry has found an uptick in searches for Regency-era girl names inspired by the show. This includes Eloise (No. 49), Phoebe (No. 156), Daphne (No. 178), and Francesca (No. 307), along with Hyacinth and Philippa, which have not made the SSA list yet and are ready to be claimed.

“Brit Lit” Names Are Making a Comeback

When Nameberry compiled its lis of the top baby-name trends of 2026, it noted the return of names from classic literature. Call it a Wuthering Heights effect, or maybe it’s related to the rise in Romantasy names, but whatever it is, it’s causing a rise in these classic names.

Jane (No. 221)
Elowyn (No. 299)
Tessa (No. 311)
Catherine (No. 314)
Bennett (No. 912)
Darcy (No. 857)
Cordelia (No. 981)

Of course, it’s hard to tell if Jane and Catherine are popular because of Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights, or if they’re just names that are always on the list, be we like the idea of a bookish connection.

However you feel about these up-and-coming trends, before you decide on a baby name, scan the SSA's most current crop of names to see where it falls on the list. And if it doesn't rank in the top 1,000, it's a good bet you've got a unique name on your hands.
