When I started using the State Graham XL Tote four years ago, I had no idea how often I’d reach for it. As a mom of two kids, I'm constantly on the go, and somehow I always have a ton to carry. I also oversee testing at the Good Housekeeping Institute, so I've had my hands on a ton of totes over the years. But this bag has been my go-to for everything from flights, road trips, and overnight stays to beach days, pool outings, and more.

My only complaint? The designs have historically been limited. I’ve been carrying a tie-dye version, and I've gifted an ikat-style print to a friend. Both were wearable, but not something I would have chosen had there been more design options. That’s why I was excited to see the brand’s recent collaboration with LoveShackFancy.

The new collection features an on-trend ditsy floral print called “Confetti Bloom” that my daughters and I have been swooning over. The pastel florals are scattered across a soft blue and white background, giving the items a feminine and whimsical aesthetic. The collaboration includes 10 styles for both kids and adults, including a weekender, a tote, and a kids' backpack (which I’ll be giving to my tween), along with smaller pouches, a laptop sleeve, and a lunch box.

Based on past launches, these styles tend to sell out, so I’ll be getting my shopping done ASAP. And I'd recommend others do the same, especially since this would make a great Mother’s Day gift.

Why I swear by the Graham XL Tote

This bag checks nearly every box: It’s spacious, lightweight, durable, easy to clean, and thoughtfully designed. The thick shoulder straps stay put, even when the bag is fully packed, and the interior pockets make it easy to find and store smaller items without digging around. But my favorite feature is the zipper closure, which is something that many oversized tote bags lack. It keeps everything secure, which is especially helpful when traveling.

I’ve praised the State Graham XL bag for years, and it even earned a past Good Housekeeping Travel Award for being roomy, versatile, and easy to carry. I also featured it on a CBS Mornings segment about GH's Travel Awards as a standout winner. But even when I'm not publicly broadcasting it, I'm frequently recommending it to friends and family.

For the pool or beach, I can fit towels, a change of clothes, sunscreen, and other essentials for my family. Even better: I've found that sand doesn’t stick to the fabric. When traveling, the built-in trolley sleeve slips easily over a suitcase handle. I often pack it inside my luggage, then use it as a carry-on for the trip home after we've purchased souvenirs.

It’s also become a staple for long car rides, where I fill it with snacks, blankets, and other essentials. And despite being an overpacker, I can fit everything I need for an overnight stay, including clothes and toiletries.

A few downsides to consider

At $165, it's fairly expensive for a tote bag. But in my experience, it offers more value than almost any other bag I own. It’s also too big to use everyday or as a work tote, but I’ve found far more uses for it than I initially expected.

Bottom line: You’ll use it more than you think

If you’re someone who always feels like you have too much to carry, the State Graham XL Tote is a game-changer. And if you’re willing to splurge on a stylish, high-quality design, it’s well worth the investment.
