The best toys for Christmas 2026
What are the top toys for Christmas 2026?
Throwback favourites
Nostalgia is set to continue shaping how families shop for toys this Christmas. ‘Parents enjoy introducing their children to the toys and characters they grew up with, but kids still want something that feels fresh and fun to play with,' says Chantal Pearce, head of toy buying at Argos. ‘When a toy balances that retro charm with modern features, it quickly becomes a favourite across the household.’
Joe Evans, Selfridges toy buyer, agrees: ‘I think we're going to see smiles on families' faces this Christmas, as parents indulge in some of their favourite childhood toys, with 90s classics set for a big comeback.’
A toy that perfectly taps into this trend is the fully functioning Mini Brands Really Works Vinyl Playset, which really spins and plays music from current chart-topping artists.
For younger children, brands such as Hot Wheels are expected to remain popular, alongside traditional wooden toys that will stand the test of time.
Future play
Interactive technology is adding extra layers to everyday play. ‘The best interactive toys are all about instant fun and encouraging kids to dive right in,’ says Chantal.
A brand-new toy set to become a firm favourite this Christmas is the Tonies Lite. Designed as a compact, travel-friendly alternative to the Toniebox, it makes taking stories, music and audio adventures on the go easier than ever.
Meanwhile, for children who enjoy role play, the Little Live Pets My Magical Dragon Skye is also expected to be a hit.
Continuing the theme of animals and creatures, the Primal Hatch Megalodon Hatching Egg Shark Toy turns opening a new toy into an event in itself, using a simple splash of water to trigger a fizzing, foaming reaction that lets kids 'hatch' their own prehistoric shark.
Finally, clever tech features are also giving older kids new ways to express themselves. The Projector Karaoke Machine pairs smart app connectivity with built-in stage lights, so kids can put on full concerts at home.
Mini worlds & big adventures
‘Creative play gives kids the freedom to build their own stories from scratch,’ explains Chantal. ‘Whether they’re designing gifts for friends or losing themselves in an imaginative world, these toys are all about hands-on fun that keeps them engaged for hours.’
In other words, Lego isn't going anywhere. Building toys continue to encourage imaginative, open-ended play, while classic dollhouses and comforting soft toys will also find their way under (or around!) the tree. As Joe says, ‘Christmas wouldn't be the same without a new must-have Jellycat plushie for shoppers both young and old to covet!’
As Seen on Screen
Favourite TV shows and films continue to inspire some of this year's most-wanted toys. ‘When kids fall in love with a movie or show, they want to step right into that world,’ says Chantal. ‘Screen-inspired toys are at their best when they let children recreate their favourite moments or create brand-new stories with characters they already adore.’
The film of the moment is Disney's Toy Story 5, while KPop Demon Hunters is still as popular as ever, with both expected to inspire some of this Christmas's most-wanted toys.
As always, we’ll be keeping this article up to date as we get closer to the big day and as more trends and toys start to emerge – just call us Father Christmas.
