As we age, our skincare and cosmetic preferences tend to adapt to our changing needs. With concerns like collagen loss or skin dryness, it’s important to focus on products that are hydrating and gentle while leaving skin looking (and feeling) refreshed, says GH Beauty, Health & Sustainability Lab Director Sabina Wizemann.

She recently shared her top tips for curating a skincare routine over 50, and several of her favorite products—as well as our editors makeup essentials—happen to be on sale for Amazon Prime Day. Should you want to try something new or stock up on your favorites, the time is now.

Exfoliation is key to ridding your skin of dead cells and revealing brightened, softened skin underneath. Wizemann loves these resurfacing pads that use glycolic acid to target fine lines and uneven tone. “Though I would love to use them more often, once a week (on Saturdays) seems to be all I can tolerate for now,” she says. “I love how they leave my skin smoother and brighter as early as the next day.”

Sun protection is for all ages. But, when maintaining a solid skincare routine over 50, Wizemann says including a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ is a step that can’t be skipped. “Skin is more vulnerable to UV damage, making daily sunscreen a must,” she notes. Her personal choice is this SPF 50 from La Roche-Posay, which is a lightweight serum that contains both niacinamide and hyaluronic acid.

“How you cleanse your skin matters more now,” Wizemann says. She suggests using a face wash that is gentle, like this gel cleanser from Neutrogena. It includes ingredients that don’t strip the skin, but instead leave it feeling soft and supple.

Laura Geller’s Spackle line is a favorite among our editors. This hydrating primer soothes and brightens the skin, making it a great option for anyone who needs a little additional care in their skin prep.

You can also achieve a dewy, brightened effect with Charlotte Tilbury’s Glowgasm Beauty Light Wand. This highlighter gives skin an effortless glow and comes in multiple shades (including Goldgasm, Pillow Talk Light/Medium, and Pillow Talk Medium/Deep, all of which are on sale.)

If you’re interested in a look sans shimmer, this blush wand delivers a flush of color with a soft-focus, blurring effect. It’s lightweight and blends smoothly onto the skin without leaving a cakey or powdery look.
