First, there were Beanie Babies. Then, there were Labubus. Now, there are Fugglers. If you’re asking yourself, “What the heck is a Fuggler?” you’re not alone. I, too, had that reaction when I came across the, ahem, unique plush toys on social media. Once you see them, you can’t unsee them—and now, I’m noticing them at various stores across the country… even Costco.
That’s right: During one of my many daily Instagram scrolls, I noticed hysteria in the comment section of a recent @CostcoNewDeals post announcing the arrival of “new” Fugglers at the store.
The post explains how the stuffed animals (monsters? creatures? characters?) have “different textures” and “human-like teeth.” They mentioned how they’re “friendly” and “ugly,” further asking followers if they’d buy one. Based on the comments, it’s safe to say that people will certainly be buying them.
“NEED,” one person wrote. “I love these,” said another.
So, yes. Fugglers are friendly, yet ugly stuffed animals that shoppers can’t get enough of—but the brand markets them as “funny-ugly” monsters who are equally mischievous, chaotic, and heartwarming.
Right now, there are over 250 Fuggler designs in the brand’s collection, ranging from mini, key-chain-sized monsters to larger 18-inch versions (like the ones apparently being sold at Costco). According to Fuggler’s website, they’ve seemingly collaborated with various TV shows and movies to create Fuggler versions of pop-culture icons such as Spongebob, Patrick, and even the Powerpuff Girls (which will be available on Amazon March 1). There are also characters from The Lord of the Rings available, as well as Fuggler Gremlins and Care Bears for a total throwback.
Senior Parenting & Relationships Editor Marisa LaScala is familiar with Fugglers, and she tells me, “The teeth are truly disturbing especially, and my 10-year-old loves to gross me out by showing them to me.”
Convinced to buy one, yet? I kind of am. If you are, too, I have some good news. Fugglers are also available on Amazon, which means you can get your funny-ugly creature in just a few days with Prime shipping. If these catch on like Labubus did, I’m going to assume they won’t stay in stock for long.
