Our top picks:
- Best overall: ChomChom Roller Pet Hair Remover
- Best value: Evercare Extreme Stick Lint Remover
- Best for clothing: OXO Furlifter Pet Garment Brush Hair Remover
In the Good Housekeeping Institute Home Care & Cleaning Lab, we tested more than 25 top-selling pet hair removal tools, evaluating how well each picked up fur from a variety of fabrics and surfaces. We also asked pet owners on staff which areas are hardest to clean and the tools they rely on at home.

Pros
Collects hair into a built-in compartment
Easy to clean
Removed all visible pet hair in one pass
Cons
Large size makes clothing harder to clean
When we asked our pet-owning colleagues what they used at home to tackle pet hair, the ChomChom Pet Hair Remover was the tool mentioned most often. After testing it in the Cleaning Lab, we understood why. This reusable tool picked up all of the fur on our test surfaces in a single pass.
Unlike tools that simply collect fur into a pile you have to pick up and toss, the ChomChom traps hair inside a built-in compartment that’s easy to empty. While it’s gentle enough for clothing, it wasn’t our favorite choice for that task. The roller works best when fabric is held taut, and its larger size made it harder to maneuver around collars and smaller areas. But for couches, bedding, and other larger surfaces, the comfortable handle and effective pickup made it a standout.

Pros
Extra-sticky sheets pick up pet hair and debris quickly
Does not redeposit any fur onto cleaned surfaces
Plastic handle is reusable
Cons
Not ideal for larger surfaces
The Evercare Pet Hair Remover Roller was one of the most effective lint rollers we tested, thanks to its extra-sticky sheets that picked up pet hair and debris with every pass. In the Cleaning Lab, it performed so well that we used it to restore test surfaces between pet hair evaluations. Even when the sheet became covered in fur, it didn’t redeposit hair or debris onto freshly cleaned surfaces.
Like most lint rollers, it’s best for smaller areas like clothing rather than large surfaces like carpets, and the disposable sheets aren’t the most sustainable option. However, the refillable design lets you continue using the same handle, and replacement rolls come in multi-packs for added value.

Pros
Easy to use
Convenient for on-the-go pet hair removal
Self-cleaning base
Cons
Does not remove embedded pet hair from fabrics
In our Lab tests, OXO’s Furlifter Pet Garment Brush left surfaces looking completely clean after just one swipe. Even when we thought it couldn’t pick up any more faux hair, it continued to collect fur. The reusable brush features a self-cleaning base that holds multiple passes worth of hair before needing to be emptied, and while you need to follow the arrows on the handle to use it correctly, it’s simple to operate.
Its compact size makes it easy to stash in a bag for on-the-go touch-ups. Just keep in mind that it’s best for surface-level fur and won’t remove deeply embedded pet hair from fabrics.

Pros
Six differently shaped surfaces for pet hair removal needs
Sturdy, comfortable handle
Glides smoothly over fabrics
Cons
Requires more effort than others
If you’re looking for one tool to tackle pet hair on multiple surfaces, the FurDozer X6 is a versatile option. It features six uniquely shaped surfaces designed to collect fur from everything from carpets and upholstery to hard-to-reach spots like between couch cushions. In our tests, it pulled a surprising amount of fur from a carpet that had already been lint-rolled clean, though it gathers hair into piles rather than removing and containing it.
While many tools we tested snagged on clothing or struggled to glide over plush fabrics, this one moved smoothly across materials thanks to its flexible rubber design. The rubber extends into the handle, making it feel sturdy and comfortable to use. It does, however, require some extra effort to get surfaces completely clean.

Pros
Removed almost all pet hair from our test garments
Softens fabrics too
Used sheets can be repurposed
Cons
Sheets are not reusable
After washing and drying a sweater covered in faux pet hair, just half of a Bounce Pet Hair and Lint Guard Dryer Sheet left it almost completely fur-free—a result the other three laundry products we tested couldn’t match.
These dryer sheets are designed to trap pet hair and lint while also softening fabrics, making them a convenient option for tackling shedding in laundry. Like other single-use solutions, each sheet is discarded after use, but we found that used sheets can be repurposed for quick dusting jobs around the house.

Pros
Wide roller for greater coverage
Easy to hold and use
Stickier than a typical lint roller
Cons
Requires refills
For larger surfaces covered in pet hair, the Scotch-Brite Pet Hair Roller is a more efficient option than a traditional lint roller. Its wider cleaning head and 50% stickier sheets pick up more fur with fewer passes.
Like other Scotch-Brite tools we’ve tested, this roller impressed us with its sturdy construction and performance. In the GH Institute Cleaning Lab, it quickly removed fur and lint from upholstery in just a few swipes. The horizontal design is comfortable to hold, covers more surface area at once, and makes it easier to clean cushions, chair backs, and carpeted stairs. Like other lint rollers, it does require regular refills.

Pros
Left test carpets cleaner than most other carpet tools
Lightweight and easy to hold
The tool head fits on broomsticks
Cons
Redeposits hair after a few passes
Of the five Lilly Brush pet hair removal tools we tested, this long-handled option was our favorite for carpet cleanup. Just a few short strokes gathered all of the faux pet hair we applied to our test carpet into a neat pile, making it easy to pick up.
To prevent fur from being redeposited, we found it’s best to clear the rubber blades as they become covered with hair. The lightweight handle is comfortable to hold and long enough to reach under furniture and into other hard-to-reach areas. While the included handle isn’t adjustable, the tool head fits on standard broomsticks for added versatility.

Pros
Gentle enough to use on clothing
Three-step cleaning method for more thorough cleaning
Compact size is easy to hold and store
Cons
Not ideal for large surfaces
Despite its compact size, the Analan Mini Pet Hair Remover impressed us across every surface we tested. Each side features differently sized rubber grooves that can be used individually or in sequence for a more thorough clean.
On upholstered furniture, a single side removed the visible pet hair covering the surface. On carpet, using the three sides in succession (large, medium, then small) helped lift both surface-level fur and embedded hair left behind by other tools.
Unlike metal-toothed removers that can snag or damage fabrics, Analan’s rubber grooves are gentle enough for clothing. Its compact size also makes it easy to hold and store, though the small surface area means it’s better suited for quick cleanups than large jobs.
Other pet hair removal tools we tested

Some tools we tested performed well for specific tasks but had drawbacks that kept them off our main list, including snagging on fabrics, leaving residue behind, or being harder to clean.
- Uproot Clean's Cleaner Pro: This metal-toothed tool was excellent at pulling deeply embedded fur from carpets and quickly gathering large amounts of hair. However, it snagged on polyester knit fabric and fuzzy sweaters during testing. It’s best reserved for carpets and sturdier fabrics.
- Furzoff: This pumice-style tool removed pet hair effectively from all of our test surfaces, but it left behind a light dusting of stone residue on some fabrics. We recommend it for smaller jobs like couch pillows, car interiors, and small carpeted areas. It’s easy to clean with water and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
How we test the best pet hair removal tools

To find the best pet hair removal tools, we first asked cat and dog owners on the Good Housekeeping staff for their recommendations. We then researched the most popular and widely available options from major retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, and Chewy, and selected 26 best-selling tools for evaluation.

In the Good Housekeeping Institute Home Care & Cleaning Lab, we tested each tool on carpets, clothing, and velvet and polyester-knit-covered pillows. To simulate pet hair on upholstered furniture, we used rayon fibers commonly used in the vacuum cleaner industry for testing vacuums (and which we also use in our own vacuum testing).
Each tool was tested side by side with a similar tool from another brand to compare their performance. All tools were judged by how well they picked up or piled faux pet hair into an easy-to-pick-up pile and how easy they were to use. After each test, we cleaned each tool and noted any that changed appearance or were difficult to clean.

Tools meant for use in a washing machine or dryer were tested by applying faux pet hair to clothing items likely to trap pet hair, such as fluffy sweaters, and then washing and drying as you normally would at home.

What to look for when shopping for pet hair removal tools

✔️ Type: Pet hair removers come in several forms, including rubber tools, fabric brushes, sticky lint rollers, and metal-toothed tools that comb out embedded fur. For clothing and delicate fabrics, we recommend sticking with lint rollers, reusable fabric rollers, or rubber-sided tools, since most metal-toothed options we tested snagged or damaged fabrics. Smaller tools are best for quick touch-ups, while larger tools and long-handled options are better for bigger surfaces and hard-to-reach areas.
✔️ Durability: Some options, like lint rollers and dryer sheets, are single-use, but reusable tools should be sturdy enough to hold up over time. Look for durable materials like thick plastic or rubber, strong handles, and positive user reviews before buying.
How do I keep my house pet hair free?

A completely pet hair-free home isn’t realistic, but regular grooming and cleaning can help keep fur under control. Brush pets often to remove loose hair before it lands on floors and furniture, and vacuum high-traffic areas like pet beds, litter boxes, and carpets more frequently. Keeping pets off beds and choosing easy-to-clean upholstery, like leather or faux leather, can also reduce buildup. For quick touch-ups, keep a pet hair remover in your car or near your most-used spaces.
