Our top picks:

Our pros in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab regularly test clothing like jeans, leggings, T-shirts, bras, and more. I rounded up top-performing brands from our tests of these items, as well as some recommended by GH editors, and checked which of them were available on Amazon. Ahead, check out the best clothing brands on Amazon, including a few of our favorite items from each brand to get some style inspo.

WHAT WE LOVE: Gap is a crowd-favorite clothing brand among our GH staff for its dresses, denim, linen pants, shorts, skirts, tanks, tees, and more. The brand has tons of midi dresses that are flowy, stylish, and available in trendy colors like butter yellow. I personally love Gap’s linen pants for the summertime and basic tops, like this scoopneck tank on Amazon. Some Gap items on Amazon are offered in an XX-Small Petite to an XXL, but there are more sizing options on the brand’s site.

WHAT WE LOVE: For budget-friendly loungewear pieces that don’t skimp on quality, our pros recommend Hanes. We love the matching sets that are great for feeling cute yet cozy, and the brand’s Beefy Tee is one of our favorite T-shirts, thanks to its thick, substantial feel. Whether you want a pair of soft sweatpants or a new pajama shirt, Hanes has got you covered.

WHAT WE LOVE: If you’re looking for a new pair of jeans, our pros in the Textiles Lab are fans of Levi's denim for its durability and comfort. One of my favorite pairs of jeans is from Levi’s, and they have lasted me for years. You can get several denim styles on Amazon, including the iconic 501 jeans and the shorts version (which is great for summer!).

WHAT WE LOVE: Madewell offers a variety of clothing, from jeans to basic tees, sweaters, and dresses. Many of our pros in the Textiles Lab and GH editors (including myself!) love the brand’s stretchy, comfortable denim that still has a sturdy feel. Madewell’s tees and dresses are typically simple with solid colors, but they make for great closet staples that are soft and durable.

WHAT WE LOVE: Summertime calls for breezy dresses, and there are tons of preppy and simple dresses from Lands’ End available on Amazon. Lands’ End clothing has a coastal grandma vibe, so it’s a great brand for finding nautical clothing like blue and white striped maxi dresses. We also love swimsuits from Lands’ End.

WHAT WE LOVE: Finding business attire is always a hassle, but Anne Klein has polished work pants, tops, and blazers on Amazon that are perfect for the office. It’s great for when you need new office attire in a pinch (perhaps you got a new job!), and most of the items are on sale, too.

WHAT WE LOVE: Amazon Essentials is a brand created by Amazon, and they surprisingly have some impressive finds. We specifically love the base layers, like budget-friendly tank tops that are great pieces to wear under button-ups or cardigans. I also love that the brand offers packs of simple tanks so you can get more bang for your buck. Some item names may be misleading, so our pros advise you double-check the materials (for example, the item name may say it’s a “cotton tee” but the materials say it’s 100% polyester).

WHAT WE LOVE: If you’re trying to achieve the preppy New Englander aesthetic this summer, snag some pieces from J. Crew Mercantile on Amazon. Their chino shorts are a classic, and they’re much more comfortable to wear than denim shorts in my opinion. You can also find loose pants and cute tops from the brand to round out your wardrobe.

WHAT WE LOVE: For Love & Lemons’ flirty and feminine styles are what we reach for special occasions. The brand's curated selection on Amazon includes several different dresses with ruffles, lace, cutouts, and other cottage core motifs. They're perfect for weddings, bridal showers, engagement parties, and date nights—and you can get them delivered as early as the next day for when you’re in a pinch.

WHAT WE LOVE: Beyond Yoga’s comfortable and stylish activewear is great for breezing through an exercise class and then trying out the new brunch spot after. The brand has tons of on-trend activewear worth adding to your Amazon cart, including tanks, leggings, sports bras, and more. The brand even has maternity and plus sizes available in vibrant colors you'll want in your wardrobe ASAP.

WHAT WE LOVE: If you forgot to stock up on hiking clothes in time before your next trip, Columbia’s clothing on Amazon can get them to you in two days (or less). In fact, all of Columbia's high-quality pieces are designed to help you get outside (while staying comfy) in almost any weather, including water-resistant jackets for unexpected rain showers, moisture-wicking tees for hot days, and ultra-warm pullovers once temperatures drop.

WHAT WE LOVE: Calvin Klein's selection at Amazon includes comfy and breathable garments like their iconic wireless bralette. You can find sweatshirts, tees, underwear, and more with Calvin Klein's signature logo, and they usually ship quickly to your doorstep. You can also find business clothes like work pants and tailored dresses from Calvin Klein, if you’re looking for more than just undies.

WHAT WE LOVE: Running clothes and athleisure make up most of my wardrobe, and Adidas’ shorts have never failed me. You can find breathable tees, running shorts, and stretchy leggings from Adidas on Amazon. We also love many sneakers from Adidas, if you need new running shoes.
