Why we love it
This air fryer toaster oven from Cuisinart is a top-tested pick in our Kitchen Lab and a winner in my home as well. I use it daily to cook and reheat meals; it’s fast, powerful, and reliably turns out evenly cooked toast and salmon fillets.
What you’re getting
Cuisinart’s air fryer toaster oven comes with a baking/drip pan, air fryer basket, grill pan, and wire rack, and the door features printed rack-position guides for each setting, making it especially user-friendly. Four clear, easy-to-read mechanical dials keep operation simple.
How it performed in our tests
The TOA-70 delivered crispy, evenly cooked wings and fries quickly. Because this model is powerful, there is a slight learning curve and we recommend checking and tossing fries occasionally to prevent over-browning. The oven also produced consistent, golden results when toasting and baking. The only drawback: The air-frying accessories aren’t dishwasher-safe.

Pros
Small and compact but can fit a 12-inch pizza
Great price
Easy to operate
Cons
Mechanical dials are not as precise as digital controls
Why we love it
This affordable model has a basic control panel with three knobs that are easy to operate, and it proved to be a useful small kitchen appliance that's still large enough to fit a 12-inch frozen pizza.
What you’re getting
The air fryer toaster oven comes with a metal mesh basket for air frying, a broil rack, and a baking tray. It has a 30-minute countdown timer, a stay-on setting for cooking longer than 30 minutes, and auto-shutoff. Take note that the timer's increments are set in units of five, but there are no markings for the individual minutes.
How it performed in our tests
The Sure-Crisp impressed us during testing, especially when it came to air frying. In our tests in the Kitchen Lab, it was one of the few that could produce a pizza with uniformly melted cheese and evenly colored toast. Wings and fries crisped up quickly, evenly, and nicely. If you want to fit a larger pizza or feed a lot of mouths at once, we recommend the Hamilton Beach 6-in-1 Sure Crisp Air Fryer Toaster Oven. It has the same great features as the smaller Sure-Crisp, but a larger capacity.

Pros
Swivels up to save space and allow an easier clean

Easy to use
Cons
Cannot fit a whole chicken or other large roasts
Why we love it
The Ninja Foodi Air Fry Oven has one of the largest air-frying racks we tested, measuring 13 by 13 inches. It can fit up to nine slices of toast at once, but its squat design means it can’t accommodate a whole chicken like many other air fryer toaster ovens we tried.
What you’re getting
The Foodi’s control panel is simple to operate, with easy-to-read settings, and its most appealing feature is that it swivels upward to sit on its side for storage, so it'll take up less counter space. Plus, when stored upright, the bottom of the oven can be released for cleaning so you can easily wipe it down.
How it performed in our tests
In our evaluations, the Ninja Foodi Air Fry Oven air fried crispy, evenly cooked wings and fries. It also toasted bread evenly and made a gorgeously browned and level cake.

Pros
Spacious

Why we love it
The Flexify French Door toaster oven from Midea is a large 26.4-quart model that is spacious enough to cook multiple dishes at once. The benefit of French doors is aesthetic and practical; some users like that the oven has the look of a professional kitchen oven. Also, the doors swing wide open to give you better access to the cooking cavity.
What you’re getting
The easy-to-use control panel includes a dial, buttons, and a clear digital display, along with 10 cooking functions: air fry, bake, roast, toast, broil, pizza, reheat, slow cook, dehydrate, and warm. Temperature adjusts in 5-degree increments from 100° to 450°F, and the timer can be set in one-minute increments. The stainless steel oven comes with an air-fry tray and basket, a wire rack, and a crumb tray.
How it performed in our tests
This Midea oven was one of the top-performing French door models ever tested in the Kitchen Lab. When testing other French door models, heat often escaped due to the door design, but not this one. During testing, we were impressed by how well it air-fried both chicken wings and French fries, resulting in evenly crispy, yet still moist, results. When roasting chicken and broiling steak, we noticed the oven took longer to reach the desired doneness.

The oven features 11 functions and numerous one-touch presets, including settings for chicken breasts, frozen pizza, and eggs. Its sleek design includes a large viewing window, durable ceramic-coated accessories that are easy to clean, and an easy-glide rack that makes it easier to access your food.
How it performed in our tests
In our tests, it delivered crispy-skinned roast chicken, fluffy cake, and evenly cooked French fries. Toasting results were less impressive, and it struggled to achieve a strong sear on steak.

Pros
Sleek, straightforward design

Why we love it
This model from Lotus is a large, stylish air fryer toaster oven that delivers high-quality results and features that meet many cooking needs.
What you’re getting
The Perfectionist has sleek, easy-to-grip knobs, a sturdy handle, and a large window for monitoring food as it cooks. A clear digital display and intuitive mix of dials and buttons make it simple to operate. It also includes a built-in thermometer that plugs directly into the oven to track the internal temperature of meats and other dishes. Accessories include a baking pan, a broil rack, an air fry tray, and a basket.
How it performed in our tests
During testing, we were impressed by how golden and crisp wings turned out after air frying while remaining juicy on the inside. The Lotus had some of the highest scores for baking, resulting in moist, evenly-browned cakes. While it performed well in all other tests, the inside of the whole chicken was slightly overcooked and dry, while the outside was evenly browned with crisp skin.

Other air fryer toaster ovens we tested

These models performed well but were edged out by our top picks in one or more key testing areas.
- Breville Joule Smart Oven Air Fryer: This toaster oven performed great in our tests, and consumers love it, but the built-in air fryer modes don't make food as crispy as other models we've tested.
- Café Couture Oven With Air Fry: This stylish air fryer toaster oven delivered strong results in our tests, producing crisp, juicy wings that released easily from the basket. There was no smoking during air frying, and the oven was straightforward to operate, thanks to its intuitive digital control panel. In our toaster oven tests, bread emerged evenly golden, and while the cake required a bit more baking time than some other models, it baked evenly and level.
- Cuisinart 15-in-1 Extra-Large Digital Air Fryer Oven: This extra-large toaster oven from Cuisinart is big enough to cook a 13-pound turkey, according to the brand. The toaster oven has several functions, including air fry, bake, toast, roast, broil, pizza, warm, low, grill, and dehydrate. While it performed well during testing, we did note that it required additional cooking time when using the air fry function.
- Emeril Lagasse French Door Air Fryer/Toaster Oven: This is a large oven that did a great job in our chicken and steak tests, though toasting performance was more moderate, producing lighter toast even on the darkest setting.
- KitchenAid Digital Countertop Oven with Air Fry & Pizza Stone: You may know KitchenAid best for its iconic stand mixer, but our experts also recommend the brand across a variety of kitchen appliance categories. We especially liked this air fryer toaster oven’s slim, stylish design, but it showed uneven heating in our tests.
- Martha Stewart French Door Air Fryer Toaster Oven: This new model from Martha Stewart’s countertop appliance line baked a cake evenly in our tests. While browning performance on steak was more subtle, it’s missing a manually operated oven light; it offers solid overall cooking results and a clean, streamlined design.
- Ninja French Door Premier Air Fryer Toaster Oven: This latest model from Ninja comes well-equipped with two racks, a crumb tray, a baking/drip tray, and an air fryer basket. It excelled in our air-frying tests, earning perfect scores for both French fries and chicken wings due to its evenly browned, crispy results. We found it tended to brown foods a bit more when baking items like frozen pizza and cake.
- Ninja Prestige Smart XL Air Fryer & Countertop Oven + Pro Cook: Like Ninja’s French door model, the Prestige offers a wide range of functions, including air fry, roast, broil, bake, pizza, toast, dehydrate, bagel, and reheat. Its extra-large capacity and large convection fan promote even heat circulation, helping it deliver excellent air-frying results for wings and fries, but its baking performance was mixed.
- Our Place Wonder Oven: While this model looks adorable on your kitchen counter (and comes in fun colors), its toasting and air-frying performance wasn't quite as strong as some of the top models we tested.
- Our Place Wonder Oven Pro: We recently tested the latest toaster oven from Our Place. Larger than the original and equipped with a digital display, it impressed us with its air-frying performance, earning top marks for juicy, evenly browned chicken wings. We found that the best results with frozen fries came from giving them a quick toss midway through cooking.
How we test air fryer toaster ovens

In the Kitchen Lab, we tested 24 air fryer toaster ovens for their ability to air fry, bake, broil, and, of course, toast. To assess each of these functions, we perform the following tests.

✔️ Chicken wing test: When we test wings, we sprinkle them with salt and place them on the rack. We don't add any oil, so we can see whether they brown nicely and/or stick on their own. We assess how quickly and evenly they cook and whether they are juicy or dry. We also use this test to help us evaluate whether the oven is prone to smoking and how easy it is to clean afterward.

✔️ French fry test: We also air fry frozen fries and take the same criteria as wings into consideration. We score how quickly and evenly they cook, as well as how crispy but tender they turn out.

✔️ Toast test: One of our most important—and revealing—tests for air fryer toaster ovens is making toast. Since toasting is one of the most frequently used functions, it has to perform well. We fill the rack with bread slices three separate times, using a different shade setting for each batch. Then we assess how evenly and consistently the oven browns the bread and how clearly the low, medium, and high settings differ. Many models perform so well that there’s no need for a separate toaster.

✔️ Pizza and cake tests: In addition to air frying and toasting, we test the air fryer toaster ovens' baking ability by making frozen pizza (to see how evenly the cheese melts and whether the crust is done) and baking a boxed-mix cake (to see how evenly it cooks and browns). We score the results on cooking time and evenness.

✔️ Steak test: Lastly, we test the broiling function with steak, since a good air fryer toaster oven should be able to broil food quickly.
What to look for when shopping for air fryer toaster ovens

✔️ Size: Most toaster ovens can fit a whole, 4-pound chicken, but if you're tight on space, you might not need the extra height. If you mostly plan to use your toaster oven for bread, reheating leftovers, or one- or two-person meals, a compact model is sufficient. If you're looking to use it as a second oven, consider a larger model; some are big enough to fit a whole turkey.
✔️ Type of controls: Toaster ovens can have digital or mechanical controls. We recommend digital for more precise temperature and timer settings. If you don't mind less-nuanced controls or keeping an additional timer close by, mechanical dials will save you money.
✔️ Racks and accessories: All toaster ovens should come with at least one rack and one baking/broiling pan. Air fryer toaster ovens usually include an additional basket or rack for air frying. The baskets usually sit on the baking/broiling pan and allow safe cooking at high temperatures, as well as easy maneuverability and cleanup. But sometimes the air fryer rack slides into the toaster oven slots, and grease can drip onto the bottom heating elements if you don't position a pan below it. Some air fryer toaster ovens may include or offer the option to purchase more air fryer racks (that can also be used for dehydrating in most cases) to use at the same time, and some include a rotisserie attachment.
What's the difference between a regular air fryer and an air fryer toaster oven?

✔️ An air fryer is a stand-alone appliance that can crisp up food quickly. The heat source is located on the top of the unit and is paired with a large fan that circulates the hot air. There are two main air fryer styles to choose from:
- Basket-style air fryers have a basket where food is placed to air fry. The basket can include a removable perforated tray, which helps promote airflow and doubles as a rack that grease can drip through, or the basket itself can be perforated and sit inside a basket holder. Some people like a removable tray because it's easier to clean, but others prefer the dual basket because the grease stays in the outer basket, and the inner basket can be removed for easy transfer to a serving plate. Basket-style air fryers are particularly great for small foods that benefit from shaking, like fries, tater tots, or veggies. They can be used to cook in a single layer, too.
- Oven-style air fryers use racks instead of baskets. They're ideal for cooking different types of foods at the same time or cooking items that benefit from being in a single layer, like chicken, meat, or fish. The racks need to be rotated during cooking so the food can air fry evenly. This type of air fryer tends to be easier to clean because only the racks and drip pan need to be washed, versus a bulky basket. Some even come with accessories that allow you to cook rotisserie chicken.
✔️ An air fryer toaster oven is a toaster oven that's also designed to air fry. It will either have more heating elements and a larger fan or rely on existing fans and higher temperature settings. This type of air frying takes place in a shallow basket set atop a tray or in an air fryer basket. Like oven-style air fryers, the air-frying parts are easier to clean.
