Our top picks

- Best value: California Design Den Everyday Soft Sateen Sheets
- Best cooling: Comfort Spaces Coolmax Sheets
- Softest: Bedsure Rayon Sheets
Our fiber scientists in the Textiles Lab reviewed testing data for more than 400 sheet sets of all thread counts and fiber contents to find the best sheets. For this list, we rounded up our experts’ top picks that happen to be on Amazon to help you find a set that fits your budget and preferences. Whether you want crisp percale sheets or silky cooling sheets, there’s likely something for you below.

Pros
Strong and durable fabric
Excellent return policy
Soft, smooth and comfortable, according to testers
Cons
Only neutral colors available on Amazon
There’s a lot to love about Brooklinen’s Luxe Core sheet set. Not only is it the best overall sheet set we’ve tested in the GH Institute, but it’s also earned several Bedding Awards over the years.
These sateen sheets have consistently performed well in Lab tests, and consumer testers found them to be comfortable, soft, and smooth. In our tests, they resisted pilling and avoided shrinkage after repeat laundering cycles. Still, it is important to follow proper care instructions, as the brand recommends washing them in cold water only.
In our most recent Bedding Awards, several testers said these sheets gave them a better night’s sleep and that they loved the luxe feel. “They are super soft and crisp, and it feels like I am staying in a nice hotel when using them,” one tester shared.
The Core Sheet Set, which includes a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases, is available in several neutral colors and patterns on Amazon, and we like that they come at a reasonable price point. If you’re looking for more shades (or fabric), you’ll have to head to Brooklinen’s website.
| Fabric | 100% cotton sateen |
| Size | Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, California King |
Pros
Affordable
Durable and resistant to pilling
Offered in various colors and sizes
Cons
Less luxurious-feeling than others on this list
If you love cotton sheets that feel silky and smooth without the splurge, these sateen sheets are a good choice. In Lab tests, we found them resistant to pilling or shrinking (though they weren't as strong as some other sheets tested).
Our testers noted the substantial weight and smooth fabric texture, with one saying: "The sheets are very comfortable and crisp, without being overly crisp to the point of being stiff." Another added, "They felt clean and fresh."
We also like that they come at a price that’s hard to beat (and often go on sale), which is why we named them the best value in our tests of cotton sheets. They’re offered in a variety of sizes and dozens of colors to match your bedroom décor.

Pros
Received high marks for comfort and softness from our testers
Proved to be pill-resistant in tests
Available in more than 20 colors
Cons
Bamboo claims are misleading
In our search for the softest bed sheets, our at-home testers said that the sheets were comfortable to sleep on, and they also received high marks for softness in a blind comparison. "They remind me of sheets you would see on a bed at a nice hotel," one tester said.
Because they're made with rayon, which has moisture-wicking capabilities, we think this set is also a great choice for hot sleepers. What’s more, they proved to be pill-resistant in our Lab's tests.
One note: our pros say to be wary of the brand's marketing, which suggests the sheets are made with natural materials. Though it’s promoted as being made from bamboo, there is no bamboo left in the finished fabric.
With more than 20 color options to choose from, there's bound to be a sheet set that coordinates with your bedroom decor.

Pros
Great value
Soft and smooth
Sold in 42 colors and patterns, plus unique sizes
Cons
Synthetic fabric doesn’t feel crisp or substantial
It's hard to go wrong with these best-selling sheets; they’ve been a favorite of GH editors and Lab experts for years, have made multiple appearances as a GH Bedding Award winner (including 2026), and remain our top pick in the microfiber category.
According to recent Bedding Award consumer testers, the polyester microfiber fabric on these sheets feel exceptionally soft; the sheets earned some of the highest softness ratings of any sheets we tested. “They are the softest sheets I’ve ever touched,” one tester said. Another reported, “When you get into bed, you feel like you’re on a cloud.”
While they may not be as breathable or crisp as natural cotton sheets, they’re easy to care for. In our Lab, the sheets kept their shape after five laundry cycles, and in our test of 1,000 rubs, they resisted pilling. We also appreciate that they come in plenty of sizes and colors, including a deep-pocket version for mattresses up to 21 inches.

Pros
Crisp, lightweight feel
Double elastic fitted sheet helps prevent shifting
Fabric didn't shrink in our tests
Cons
May shrink after washing
Our experts were impressed with these sheets in our tests, including fabric strength and resistance to pilling, though we did see some slight shrinkage after laundering. We also like that this set is certified Made in Green by Oeko-Tex, meaning that it has been tested to ensure there aren't any unsafe levels of known harmful chemicals.
Because the sheets are made with cotton in a percale weave, they’re crisp and lightweight, making them ideal for hot sleepers. Our consumer testers found them soft and comfortable, with one person saying, "I like these sheets better than the ones I usually use. They feel like the sheets used on my bed when I was a child." They also appreciated the fitted sheet’s double elastic design, which not only makes it easier to make the bed but also prevents annoying shifting overnight.

Pros
Affordable
Cool-to-the-touch feel
Received a perfect pilling resistance score in our Lab
Cons
Fabric may feel too thin for some
For sleepers who tend to run hot, a cooling pair of sheets can make a difference in whether or not you spend hours tossing and turning. This pick from Comfort Spaces impressed our pros with its cooling effect and budget price.
“I liked the immediate cool feel when I slept on these sheets,” said Emma Seymour, Textiles Lab associate director at the GH Institute. “I stayed at a comfortable body temperature all night long because the sheets are super lightweight,” she added, noting that that they felt soft and smooth but not silky and slippery.
Because it’s made from synthetic materials, it offers better moisture-wicking capabilities than cotton. One thing to note is that the polyester and microfiber content may feel less natural than cotton. However, it's still one of the best cooling sheet sets we’ve tested. Plus, we like that you can get a Queen-size set for less than $50.
| Fabric | 80% polyester and 20% Coolmax microfiber |

Pros
GOTS-certified organic cotton
Lightweight and smooth sateen feel
Soft and durable fabric
Cons
Some creases and shrinking after washing
Limited color options
These bed sheets don’t skimp on quality or texture. Instead, they’re soft, smooth, and GOTS-certified, meaning you can trust that the entire manufacturing process adheres to strict standards. They also happen to be the best overall organic sheets we’ve tested.
Consumer testers found the sheets to be lightweight and smooth, and were impressed by the breathability. "These sheets are the best sheets I have ever owned,” one person said. “They regulated my body temperature better than very expensive sheets that I own.” Yet another called them “the comfiest sheets I have ever slept on.”
What’s more, these under-$200 sheets scored well for softness and strength in our Lab tests, though we reported some wrinkles and shrinkage after washing. And though we wish this sheet set came in additional colors, the neutral shades are likely to match any bedroom color palette.
| Fabric | 100% organic cotton sateen |

Pros
Budget friendly
Available in a variety of colors
Smooth, soft feel
Cons
Might feel thinner and cheaper to some
When you want to drench your bedroom in a cohesive palette, these budget Amazon sheets awash in every color of the rainbow will come in handy. We love that they’re easy to take care of (just machine wash warm on a regular cycle) and that they’re certified Made in Green by Oeko-Tex, meaning that they’re made in a socially responsible and sustainability-minded facility.
In our Lab tests, these sheets received top scores for softness thanks to their microfiber construction. Plus, several consumer testers found these incredibly smooth, while others called them “soft and lightweight.” Though they might feel thin to some, it’s hard to beat a deal this good.

How we test sheets

When testing the best Amazon sheets, our fiber scientists run several rigorous tests. Here’s what we consider:
✔️ Softness: Once sheets have been washed, dozens of consumer testers feel and rate each individual fabric for softness in a blind comparison test. Top-performing sheets are tested in homes by experts and testers.
✔️ Washability: Once sheets are washed multiple times following their care label instructions, our pros score both shrinkage and appearance.
✔️ Claims and Features: We consider any specifications such as organic claims or cooling features, and we verify sheet measurements to determine their accuracy and how well they’ll fit onto a mattress.
✔️ Fabric strength:

To assess a material’s strength, our pros use a tensile testing machine, called an Instron, to pull swatches of fabric apart until they break.
✔️ Wrinkle resistance:

Immediately after sheets have dried, we take each one to our specialized lighting room to visually measure any wrinkles or creases according to industry standards.
✔️ Pilling resistance:

Swatches are rubbed together with an abrasion machine that mimics tossing and turning as well as regular wear and tear. Our pros then score any signs of pilling against textile industry standards.
What to consider when shopping for the best sheets on Amazon

✔️ Fiber content: This refers to the material your sheets are made of. Are they constructed of cotton, polyester, linen, silk, a blend, or something else entirely?
Cotton is one of the most popular materials as it feels natural to the skin and is both soft and durable.
Polyester has a synthetic feel, but it's soft, smooth, wrinkle-resistant, and more affordable.
Silk is incredibly smooth and luxurious as well as naturally temperature regulating.
Linen is crisp, airy, and breathable.
Rayon (also labeled as viscose or lyocell) is a fiber that's made from plants that are chemically processed and tends to be even softer than cotton.
On Amazon, you'll find some sheets labeled as bamboo, which isn't accurate. These bamboo sheets are falsely labeled and are actually rayon. All traces of the plant have been removed by chemical processing.
✔️ Construction: A fabric's construction refers to how it was built (or woven), and is commonly described as percale, sateen, flannel, microfiber, etc. It typically plays a big part in the texture of the fabric. Since you can't touch and feel Amazon sheets before purchasing like you can in a store, use this as a general rule of thumb: Percale feels crisp and breathable (often good for hot sleepers), while sateen has a softer, silky feel. Microfiber is synthetic, often budget-friendly, and described as buttery soft. Sheets made of rayon fibers, such as viscose and lyocell, are some of the softest out there—maybe even too soft for some.
✔️ What's included: Some sheet sets don't include flat sheets, so make sure to read the Amazon product description closely if that's something you want. And while most sheet sets come with two pillowcases, if you need more you might need to purchase those separately (in addition to a duvet cover, which usually isn't included either).
✔️ Durability: Polyester is one of the more durable materials as it's more resistant to pilling and shrinkage, but cotton can be durable as well.
✔️ Care instructions: Always pay attention to care instructions before purchasing sheets. Can they be washed in warm or hot water (which is ideal for the cleanest sheets)? Or do they require a delicate or cold cycle? Is it safe to put them in the dryer? Not following care instructions properly can impact the longevity of your sheet set.
✔️ Price: Though it's common to pay anywhere between $100 and $200 for a set of quality sheets, there are some fantastic options (like many of the Amazon sheets featured above) that are under $100. Several of these sheets offer great value without sacrificing quality or softness.
