Apple isn’t the only brand raising prices this fall. In August, Amazon quietly bumped the cost of a variety of in-house tech, including Kindles, which makes it all the sweeter when we find them on sale.
Not to mention, the retailer just announced a revamp of the Kindle lineup on October 1, including a redesigned entry-level Kindle and thinner Paperwhites and Colorsofts. With that in mind, almost every older model is discounted for Amazon Prime Big Deal Days to clear out stock of previous generations.
As someone who reads on her Kindle every single day (and has for over a decade!) and tracks e-reader prices year-round, I know that Kindles rarely go on sale unless it’s one of Amazon’s annual clearance events, so it’s worth taking advantage of any discount, especially when it’s up to 34% off. Plus, Kindle discounts tend to be deeper during Prime Day sales than on Black Friday, so this might be the best prices you’ll see on these devices until 2027.
Can’t-miss Prime Day Kindle deals
- Best overall: Kindle (16 GB)
$150$104 - Best deal: Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB)
$289$189
No matter which Kindle you choose, every device has a paper-like, glare-free screen and space to store thousands of books, though each model has unique features.
- Kindle (16 GB): Now that Amazon’s new generation of entry-level Kindles has been officially announced, the 2024 model has a nice Prime Day discount. After a recent $40 price increase, Prime Day has dropped it back to $104 (for reference, the lowest price we’ve seen was $85 during Black Friday 2025). This is Amazon’s lightest and most compact model, boasting up to six weeks of battery life and a 6-inch screen.
- Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB): If you love reading in the bath or by the pool, choose the Kindle Paperwhite, which is waterproof (IPX8 rating). It also offers up to 12 hours of battery life and has a warm light feature. Given that this model now starts at $200 (up from $160), we’re excited to see it drop to $150 for October Prime Day.
- Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (32 GB): The souped-up Paperwhite Signature Edition offers all the aforementioned features, plus wireless charging and double the storage. We previously said this was worth buying if it dipped below $200, so we’re thrilled it’s just $170 for October Prime Day.
- Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB): The Kindle Colorsoft has become my most-used Kindle. It offers the same features as the Paperwhite, plus Amazon’s first full-color e-ink screen, so you can see book covers and enjoy graphic novels in vivid color. Although this isn’t the lowest price we’ve seen (during this summer’s Prime Day, it was on sale for $160 compared to its then-retail price of $250), this $100 discount is technically the best price cut yet.
- Kindle Scribe (32 GB): If you want an e-reader that also doubles as a smart notebook, the Good Housekeeping Institute–tested Kindle Scribe is a solid option that comes with a stylus, so you don’t need to buy extra supplies to start writing. Both the 32- and 64-GB versions are 24% off for a limited time.
- Kindle Scribe Colorsoft (32 GB): Rounding out the Kindle lineup is the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, which has similar functionality to the standard Scribe model—just in full color. For October Prime Day, this large e-reader has dropped back down to its record-low price, which we first saw during Prime Day this summer. Scribes also weren’t part of Amazon’s recent redesign, so any discounts apply to the latest models.
If you’re looking to save even more, you can trade in an older Kindle, Alexa, or other Amazon device to score an additional 20% off your new e-reader. I’ve done this with several Kindle purchases and found it a seamless process that helps me declutter my tech and save money.
When coveted gadgets go on sale, they tend to sell out quickly, so we recommend adding your new Kindle to your cart right away.
