I’ve tested mattresses for almost five years at the Good Housekeeping Textiles Lab, and now that it’s Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, I’m here to share the best mattress deals worth shopping. Four of our favorite mattresses on Amazon are on sale, plus I’m seeing deals on top-tested models from other retailers.
Our top picks
- Best deal on Amazon: Casper Original Foam Mattress
- Best soft mattress deal: Novilla Bliss Mattress
- Best cooling mattress deal: Purple Mattress
- Best competitor deal: Saatva Classic Mattress
I track mattress prices year-round, so I’m only sharing real, worthwhile discounts rather than phony sales. I’m also only looking at the top-performing mattresses from our tests. Remember, October Prime Day runs for two days (October 6–7), so shop smart!
The only Prime Day mattress deals worth shopping
THE DEAL: Take up to 32% off the Casper Original Foam Mattress, our favorite mattress in a box.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Casper’s Original is one of the most well-rounded options you’ll find on Amazon. Unlike most popular foam mattresses, this one uses zoned foam, which means that there’s extra give and support in key areas, like the shoulders and hips.
WHO IT’S BEST FOR: Side and back sleepers who like a cradling-foam feel without sinking in too far or shoppers who want a premium all-foam mattress at a more approachable price.
IN OUR TESTS: Our testers consistently praised it for feeling contouring, supportive, and comfortable. One said, “It supports all the curves of my body.” Side and back sleepers especially appreciated its medium-firm feel and zoned design, which helped keep their spines in a neutral position.

Tuft & Needle Original Mattress
Tuft & Needle Original Mattress
THE DEAL: Take up to 48% off our pick for the best value mattress on Amazon.
WHY WE LOVE IT: This mattress is made with foam, but still has an overall firm and responsive feel. It has a no-frills (but high-quality) design that won over back and stomach sleepers in our tests and uses graphite-infused foam to avoid trapping heat.
WHO IT’S BEST FOR: Those who want the pressure relief of foam but prefer a firmer feel, including back and stomach sleepers.
IN OUR TESTS: Our consumer testers appreciated the firm support, pain relief, and motion isolation of the Essential T&N Original. One of our testers said the mattress "feels firm and supportive." Another shared, "My back felt better on this mattress." Testers also agreed that this mattress overheated less than other all-foam models.

Novilla Bliss Mattress
THE DEAL: Get up to 23% off our pick for the softest mattress on Amazon.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Offered at a budget-friendly price, the all-foam design of this mattress cradles your hips and shoulders. It’s available in multiple heights, up to 14 inches (the higher you choose, the plusher it will be), and it also has great motion isolation.
WHO IT’S BEST FOR: Side sleepers who need pressure-relieving foam, or anyone who loves an extra plush bed. Note that it might be too warm for hot sleepers.
IN OUR TESTS: One of our consumer testers said the mattress is “a bit soft but still firm enough that I don’t feel sucked in by the foam.” Another tester said the mattress “feels like a soft hug.” Users from our survey panel also said this mattress was lightweight and easy to set up.
THE DEAL: Take up to 35% off the Purple Mattress, our top-tested cooling mattress.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Purple is known for its unique GelFlex Grid, which is a grid-shaped elastic top layer that allows for better airflow, helping you feel cooler throughout the night. This is one of the steepest discounts we’ve seen all year, especially for the King- and Full-size models.
WHO IT'S BEST FOR: Hot sleepers looking for a cool mattress and couples who want a responsive mattress with motion isolation.
IN OUR TESTS: Beyond keeping hot sleepers fairly cool, the grid stood out for its unique texture: It cradles your body, with excellent pressure relief and motion isolation. Our panelists told us this mattress is the perfect balance of soft and firm. One described sleeping on the mattress as “floating in every sleeping position” and described it as “sleeping on air.”

THE DEAL: Saatva has their public promotion going on, where shoppers can take $350 off any mattress over $1,000. Note that Saatva is not available on Amazon.
WHY WE LOVE IT: Saatva’s mattresses are a bit more luxurious than the mattresses you typically on Amazon, coming with complimentary in-home delivery and a 365-day sleep trial. This discount is just as good as the brand's exclusive GH discount from past holiday sales this year.
WHO IT'S BEST FOR: Shoppers looking for a splurge-worthy mattress or anyone who doesn't want the sink-in sensation of memory foam.
IN OUR TESTS: The Classic Mattress has our pick for the best overall mattress for over a decade. It’s earned consistent praise from hundreds of panelists and testers for its support, impact on overall sleep quality, and how well it’s held up over them. Plus, it’s got excellent edge support and breathability. While it runs a bit firm, the mattress is offered in three firmness level options you can pick from.

When is the best time to score savings on a mattress?
Holiday weekends (like Labor Day, Presidents' Day, and Memorial Day) along with Cyber Week are the best times to buy a new mattress. However, many brands are now offering special sales on their retail websites at the same time as Amazon Prime Day. Therefore, you can find a mattress sale during the Prime Day timeframe, but they aren't the best we've seen.
Is Prime Day a good time to buy a mattress?
It depends. We’re seeing some of the lowest prices we’ve seen all year on some of our favorite Amazon mattresses. But if there’s a mattress you’ve had your eye on that isn’t on sale this month (and you can afford to wait), I'd hold off until Black Friday; that's when you'll see more competitive bed sales.
Bonus: By ordering now, you probably won't have to wait as long for it to arrive as you would during busier shopping weekends, like Black Friday.
Still, my personal advice is to keep an eye on on bedding over mattresses during Prime Day; a lot of pillows, sheets, blankets, and mattress pads are more likely to be on sale directly on Amazon.
Is Amazon a good place to buy a mattress?
Amazon is a solid option for mattress shopping because you can get fast and free shipping and helpful delivery updates as a Prime member. This is a major perk because delivery can be pricey and unpredictable when ordering big furniture directly from the brand. The convenience of having a new mattress show up on your doorstep in just two days is unmatched, especially in the mattress industry. Select models may also offer delivery to a higher floor or full-service setup for an added fee.
According to Amazon's return policy, you can request a return or refund within 100 days of shipment, which is similar to mattress brands' sleep trials. Keep in mind that this policy only applies to mattresses directly shipped and sold from Amazon.
