In August, Amazon quietly bumped the cost of a variety of in-house tech, including Kindles, which makes it all the sweeter when we find them marked down. As someone who reads on her Kindle every single day (for over a decade) and tracks e-reader prices year-round, believe me when I say that this Black Friday presents one of the most fascinating opportunities to score a new e-reader on sale.

In October, Amazon announced a revamp of the Kindle lineup, including a redesigned entry-level Kindle and thinner Paperwhites and Colorsofts, which means Black Friday could mark the first time these devices go on sale. Plus, it’s likely that older generations will also be deeply discounted in an attempt to clear stock.

Because Amazon usually waits until Black Friday proper to debut Kindle deals, I’m breaking down the key differences between each model, as well as peeling back the curtain on my price-tracking knowledge to predict the deals to expect come Black Friday.

Black Friday Kindle deals we’re watching

No matter which Kindle you choose, every device has a paper-like, glare-free screen and space to store thousands of books—though each model has unique features I’ll break down below.

  • Kindle (16 GB): Now that Amazon’s new generation of entry-level Kindles are officially available, we’re hoping they’ll go on sale for the first time for Black Friday. The standard 16GB model starts at $149, while the aluminum 32GB version is $190. Plus, expect big discounts on the 2024 model, which was $104 for October Prime Day. For reference, the lowest price we’ve seen was $85 during Black Friday 2025. This is Amazon’s lightest and most compact model, boasting up to six weeks of battery life and a 6-inch screen.
  • Kindle Paperwhite (16 GB): If you love reading in the bath or by the pool, choose the Kindle Paperwhite, which is waterproof (IPX8 rating). It also offers up to 12 hours of battery life and has a warm light feature. While we’re paying attention to Black Friday deals on the latest model, the 2024 version dropped to $150 for October Prime Day.
  • Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (32 GB): The souped-up Paperwhite Signature Edition offers all the aforementioned features, plus wireless charging, double the storage, and an aluminum body. While the older model dropped to just $170 for October Prime Day, we think this is worth buying if it dips below $200.
  • Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB): The Kindle Colorsoft has become my most-used Kindle. It offers the same features as the Paperwhite, plus Amazon’s first full-color e-ink screen, so you can see book covers and enjoy graphic novels in vivid color. The new 2026 version, which is thinner and lighter, wasn’t on sale for October Prime Day, but its predecessor was $100 off during that sale. We’ll also be looking for a first-time deal on the new Kindle Colorsoft Signature edition, which offers twice as much storage space. This will come in handy if you’re planning to use your Colorsoft for full-color comic books, which tend to eat up more storage.
  • Kindle Scribe (32 GB): If you want an e-reader that also doubles as a smart notebook, the Good Housekeeping Institute–tested Kindle Scribe is a solid option that comes with a stylus, so you don’t need to buy extra supplies to start writing. Both the 32- and 64-GB versions were 24% off during October Prime Day.
  • Kindle Scribe Colorsoft (32 GB): Rounding out the Kindle lineup is the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, which has similar functionality to the standard Scribe model—just in full color. During October Prime Day, this large e-reader dropped back down to its record-low price. Scribes also weren’t part of Amazon’s recent redesign, so any discounts apply to the latest models.

If you’re looking to save even more, you can trade in an older Kindle, Alexa, or other Amazon device to score an additional 20% off your new e-reader. I’ve done this with several Kindle purchases and found it a seamless process that helps me declutter my tech and save money.

When coveted gadgets go on sale, they tend to sell out quickly, so once deals go live, we recommend adding your new Kindle to your cart right away.
