We're in the longest, most glorious days of summer, with the sun shining early to late and no school in sight. Ideally you can get your kids off their screens and outside to play. One of our favorite kid-powered outdoor toys is the Stomp Rocket, and it's on sale for Amazon Prime Day for just $20.
This toy is simple. Your kid fits a foam rocket on the launcher, then stomps on the foot pad to send the rocket sailing through the air. The brand claims a rocket can go as high as 100 feet. Each box includes eight rockets in case your kid lands one on a roof or tree. The rockets are also divided into four colors, so that kids can have a friendly competition with their rocket launching.
The more forcefully a kid stomps, the higher the rocket may go. They'll learn to jump on the foot pad, perhaps, to launch it higher, especially if they're young and lightweight. The toy is for ages 3+.
Why the Stomp Rocket is the toy of the summer
This isn't a new toy—Stomp Rocket has been around since the '90s, and the company is still family-owned. It's having a moment now because families crave toys that have zero electronics, no assembly required, no screen, and a play pattern that combines a bit of exercise with old-fashioned fun. Kids' bikes are popular right now too, but the Stomp Rocket doesn't have any learning curve and is more affordable.
And not for nothing, Stomp Rockets do teach science. Kids witness cause and effect and basic physics, and can learn through experimentation how to make their rocket go farther. It's STEM and silly all at once! We include it in our list of the best gifts for 4-year-olds but I've seen kids as old as 8 and 9 have a blast with thistoo.
Other toys that kids can stomp
It's the Jr. Rocket Set that's just $20 (normally $28) for Amazon Prime Day, a savings of more than 25%. A glow-in-the-dark version is even cheaper, just $18, but comes with only four instead of eight rockets.
There are other variations with multiple foot pads (two kids can launch at a time), stomp racers (cars that shoot sideways instead of up), and more.
