Since Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette began streaming earlier this year, people have become extra interested in the prominent duo. The internet has continuously been curious about Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, who was seemingly the “it girl” of the time, thanks to her one-of-a-kind style.
While Carolyn might’ve been best known as John F. Kennedy Jr.’s wife, she maintained her own identity long before her marriage to the attorney and publisher. Having a sales and public relations background, Carolyn was a prominent fashion publicist who worked at Calvin Klein for roughly eight years. Beyond that, she was known for her fashion sense, including her strong affinity for Levi’s jeans.
Carolyn was photographed on multiple occasions, often seen in various Levi’s jeans. Quick digging told us that Carolyn mainly wore the brand’s 517 bootcut style (rumor had it that she wore the men’s version with a belt for that boyfriend-jean look). But if you wanted a similar style without having to worry about extra fabric at the waist, we think the Levi’s Wedgie bootcut jean from the brand’s women’s section can achieve the same aesthetic. The crazy part? Both pairs of jeans are still in stock (and on sale) on Levi’s site, decades later.
As far as styling goes, Carolyn often wore the jeans with practically any outfit. She’d be seen strutting down New York City streets with a fur-trimmed, long black coat, Selima sunnies, and her hair slicked back with a wide headband, or walking her dog with a light camel trench-style coat and black block-heel boots. Either way, her legacy and iconic style live on nearly 30 years later.
