One minute it’s sunny—next, it’s freezing rain. That’s spring weather for you. That’s why it’s always a good idea to have a jacket or two on hand. And since trends come and go, we’re here to help identify which key outerwear trends will actually stay in style beyond the current season.

As a shopping editor, I’m looking at new launches everyday, and my colleague Amanda Constantine, Home & Apparel Reviews Analyst at the GH Textiles Lab has her own expertise on the latest jacket trends. This spring, consider office-worthy cinched blazers, vintage-inspired windbreakers in a rainbow of colors, and even cropped trench coats that’ll go with virtually everything in your closet. Here’s exactly which jacket trends we think are worth investing in this season, including options from top-tested brands:

The cropped trench

If we had to pick a single jacket trend that defines spring 2026, it might be the cropped trench. This spin on a timeless outerwear staple often has a boxier cut than its longline counterpart, resulting in an effortless look that pairs nicely with jeans. Steve Madden’s version is an affordable entry point to the style, while this pick from Mango features a trendy funnel neck and comes in a dreamy chocolate color.

The sporty windbreaker

That’s right, the 80s and 90s are back in style—and so are these vibrant, statement-making windbreakers. We’re seeing plenty of nostalgic colorblock styles, like these sporty options from Columbia and North Face, but some brands are bringing the windbreaker further into 2026 with fun patterns and technical fabrics made for rain or shine.

The barn jacket

Barn jackets have been a popular (and practical) pick for a few years now, and we don’t see the trend going away anytime soon. This utilitarian silhouette often features roomy pockets, a pointed collar, and a relaxed fit that’s easy to layer over tees and tanks when the weather gets warmer. Constantine especially loves this canvas J. Crew pick, which has an animal-print lining for an unexpected pop.

The cinched blazer

“Rather than the oversized look that was popular a few years ago, cinched blazers have a more refined silhouette,” Constantine says. “The cinch at the waist is reminiscent of peplum style tops and jackets, and it’s sometimes emphasized by a belt.” If you’re willing to splurge, this investment-worthy Mint Velvet option features a luxe wool-blend twill fabric, but this Old Navy blazer offers a similar look at a more budget-friendly price.

The cropped bomber

The secret to making any outfit look instantly cool? Throw a bomber jacket on top—specifically, one with a cropped silhouette. “The slight crop at the waist makes a traditionally very masculine, oversized jacket a bit more feminine,” Constantine says. “They’re especially fashion-forward in suede or leather (real or faux).”
