Grilling season is just around the corner—and for anyone over this winter weather, that’s very good news. But before you fire up that grill for some burgers and hot dogs, there’s an important recall to know about.
What is being recalled?
In late February, Weber announced a massive recall of 3.2 million units of its Metal Wire Bristle Grill Brushes. According to the company, the recall includes metal wire bristle grill brushes with plastic or wood handles measuring between 12 and 21 inches long.
The following model numbers are affected (printed on the packaging):
- 6277
- 6278
- 6463
- 6464
- 6493
- 6494
Why is this grill brush being recalled?
The recall notice warns that "small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes, stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard.” In some cases, this can lead to serious internal injuries that may require surgery.
Weber is aware of "at least" 38 reports of bristles detaching from the brushes. Of those, four reports involved “consumers who swallowed metal bristles and sought medical treatment to remove the bristles from their digestive tract or throat."
Where were these grill brushes sold?
The recalled brushes were sold nationwide both in stores and online at retailers including Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Target, as well as on Amazon and Weber.com.
The brushes were sold between 2011 and 2026, and typically retailed between $10 and $17. The recall notice added that consumers should also be aware of any product they bought second-hand on sites like eBay.
What should I do if I bought this grill brush?
If you own one, stop using it immediately and contact Weber for a replacement. Once you're in touch with the company about a replacement brush, you can discard the recalled one.
