Mark Consuelos is saying goodbye to a very special man.

On April 6, at the top of a taping of Live With Kelly and Mark, the actor shared that his father, Saul Consuelos, had died “peacefully” after what he referred to as “a long bout with an illness” on March 23.

Mark’s wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa, shared how much it meant to have Saul in both her life and her family’s.

“You were blessed more because you knew him his whole life,” Kelly said after Mark shared the news in a clip posted on YouTube. “I only got to know my father-in-law for 31 years, but they were the best 31 years of my life. I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will. He was the greatest person I've ever known. He really is so symbolic of everything you are.”

Kelly also noted during the broadcast that their children, Michael, Lola, and Joaquin, are feeling the loss particularly hard because this is the first grandparent they’ve lost.

“This is the first loss they’ve ever experienced in their lives,” Kelly added about her and Mark’s kids, per People. "And I said, ‘By the time I was 8, I had no grandparents. You got to grow up [with grandparents]. You got to have deep, meaningful conversations [with them].’”

Mark had a few things to share about his father.

“It’s funny, I used to make a joke about my dad—if you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch,” he concluded. “If he was fixing something in the house, he’d make me watch and do it. And I didn’t know at the time why he was doing that. But now at the house, I’m able to do at least half of the stuff that he did. I learned the most by just watching him.”

Our hearts are with the Consuelos family at this time.
