Actress Caitriona Balfe penned a tribute to co-star Sam Heughan for his birthday on April 30, weeks before the series finale.
Sam spoke to Good Housekeeping about his relationship with Caitriona and the rest of the Outlander cast.
As the final season of Outlander airs on Starz, fans continue to adore Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan’s portrayals of Claire and Jamie Fraser. And it turns out, their bond extends beyond Outlander—which makes sense, since they’ve been working together since 2014.
In an April 30 Instagram post for Sam’s birthday, Caitriona shared throwback photos of the duo from over the years.
“Happy Birthday to my partner in crime, grime, and occasional slime,” she wrote in the caption. “I hope this turn around the sun is the best yet and that your rays keep shining bright. 🤍 u @SamHeughan.”
Sam’s response encapsulated the duo’s dynamic.
“Haha cheers BALFE!!!” he commented. “You will always be my partner in crime! (And several months OLDER) xxxx 😉😂.”
Fans couldn’t get enough of the interaction.
“Love the friend-sibling dynamic you two have!! Happy birthday, @samheughan!! Hope you have a blast!! 🥳,” one person wrote. “Awww your friendship is just everything 😭🩷,” another emotionally penned. “Love this. Great pictures 👏🏻❤️,” a different follower added.
Hopefully, this isn’t the only time we’ll get to see Sam and Caitriona’s friendship. In February, Sam told Good Housekeeping that he is excited for the cast to explore their bond in a new way when the show ends.
“I know it sounds like a cliché, but it’s true that everyone on the set—cast and crew—really became like family,” he exclusively told us. “Obviously, we’ve all formed relationships and friendships on set. But now that we’re not on set, those bonds are flourishing and becoming deeper, since now we can actually focus on them being a friendship, rather than work colleagues. It’s nice to be able to call them friends now, and it’s lovely to just hang out as that.”
