Michael Strahan is using his platform to reflect on an important day in American history.

On August 18, the Good Morning America star revealed he will produce and host a television special tied to the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Titled 9/11: United We Stand—25 Years Later, the two-hour episode will reflect on “how sports, music, Broadway, and comedy helped Americans rediscover joy and begin to heal in the wake of the 9/11 attacks,” according to an official announcement from ABC.

The special will air on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

“We mark 25 years since the September 11 attacks,” Strahan says in a clip posted on Instagram. “Let’s talk about how sports, music, Broadway, and comedy brought comfort and healing to the nation in the wake of the tragedy. It’s a new primetime special, titled 9/11: United We Stand—25 Years Later, produced in part by my production company, SMAC Productions. Take a look.”

Many fans got emotional after seeing Michael’s announcement.

“We need to unite again, like we did 25 years ago. Can’t wait to watch this. ❤️🇺🇸🙏🏻,” one person wrote.

“Full body chills. Tears. 😢❤️,” another penned.

“Beautiful ❤️🇺🇸 I’m looking forward to watching this, tissues in hand if course,” a different follower added.

9/11: United We Stand—25 Years Later will show archival clips and interviews from people including Pete Davidson, Jon Bon Jovi, Jon Stewart, and Robin Roberts to reflect on that time in history, according to the same ABC statement.

Michael also spoke about wanting to be a part of the production: “Sept. 11 was one of the scariest moments of my life,” he shared on Instagram. “I remember the shock, the heartbreak, and the feeling that nothing would ever be the same again. All I could think about was the people who had lost loved ones and the incredible courage of the first responders. Football didn't seem important.”

“But when we returned to the field, I realized it was about more than the game,” he added. “It gave people a chance to come together, support one another, and begin to heal. This story is about honoring the lives we lost, celebrating the heroes who showed extraordinary courage, and reminding us that even in our darkest moments, we're stronger when we stand together.”

We’ll be tuning in.
