Halloweentown debuted on Disney Channel in 1998 and was followed by three sequels.
Fans learned that Halloweentown 5 is officially in the works for Disney Channel and Disney+.
Star Kimberly J. Brown, who played Marnie Piper, previously spoke out about returning to the franchise.
Disney fans, it’s time to get back into the Halloween spirit.
It’s been almost 20 years since the first movie in the Halloweentown franchise debuted on Disney Channel, following Marnie Piper (played by Kimberly J. Brown and Sara Paxton) as she discovers a world of witches and magic with her family. The beloved series now includes four films and has become a Halloween staple.
On October 28, TheWrap reported that Halloweentown 5 is officially in development for Disney Channel and Disney+. Writers Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn are working on the script, inspired by the characters fans already know from the first four movies.
Fans freaked out when they heard the news—and they also had big questions about casting.
“DON'T EVEN BOTHER IF KIMBERLY J BROWN ISN'T IN IT!!” one person shouted, referencing the actress who starred in the first three films. “THEY NEED TO HAVE BILLIE LOURD HERE OMG,” another begged, noting that actress Billie Lourd’s grandmother, the late Debbie Reynolds, starred as Marnie’s grandmother, Agatha Cromwell. “If it’s not the original cast, then keep it on the shelf,” a different follower added.
According to the outlet, details on the film's cast and premise are being kept under wraps. But Kimberly expressed her interest in reprising Marnie when she spoke to Entertainment Tonight in 2019.
“I think there’s lots of different ideas,” she told the outlet in a throwback clip on TikTok. “There’s lots of different potential for what could happen in different adventures with Marnie and her family. I would so be open to exploring that, and that’s probably the number one question I get asked from fans, ever since. So, I think the fans would be open to it, too.”
We can’t wait to hear more!
