If someone in your house goes overboard with trick-or-treating, and you’re left with a pillowcase of leftover Halloween candy, turn your stash into a fun and shareable treat instead of letting the chocolate bars and gummies linger until the new year. All it takes is adding more chocolate.

Halloween candy bark is an easy and delightful snack that also makes a great gift. Here’s how to make it in less than half an hour.

What do you need to make Halloween candy bark?

  • Chocolate chips. Use dark, milk, semi-sweet, or even white chocolate chips. Or try a mix!
  • Candy. Decorate your bark with just about any Halloween treats. Candy bars, M&M’s, candy corn, malted milk balls, and gummies all work.
  • Seasonal toppings. Pick up Halloween-themed sprinkles, Jack-o-lantern candy, or edible googly eyes at a craft store.
  • Something savory. I like to add chopped mini pretzels for a salty crunch. Lightly crushed potato or tortilla chips, popcorn, or corn nuts would all work.

For equipment: a baking sheet, parchment paper, an offset spatula, and a microwave-safe bowl

  1. Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking. I like to use a little nonstick cooking spray to keep the parchment in place.
  2. Chop any candy bars, pretzels, or other large toppings into roughly 1/4-inch pieces.
  3. Place 2 cups of dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or liquid measuring cup. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval. Stop when the chocolate is mostly melted but not totally smooth. Then stir until smooth.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and use an offset spatula to spread it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Add your toppings! Start with the big pieces like gummies, chopped candy bars, and pretzels, then work your way down to sprinkles.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes, until the bark is fully set, then break or chop the bark into snack-size pieces.

You can store the bark in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month.
