Easter is right around the corner, and dyeing eggs is one of the best ways to celebrate with family and friends. While this Easter activity is always a good time, the clean-up is far from it. To help you keep your home as spotless as possible this time around, there's a genius Easter egg dyeing hack our editors swear by year after year.

After experimenting with all kinds of Easter crafts, they've discovered a simple trick to keep surfaces mess-free—rely on a standard whisk. That's right! Go ahead and ditch the spoon or flimsy egg holders, and place your egg inside a whisk to dip it in and remove it from the dye.

How to dye eggs using a whisk:

  1. Pour boiling water into a heatproof jar or bowl. Add several drops of food coloring or egg dye and mix well.
  2. Gently open the whisk's spokes and push the egg inside. The whisk acts like a cage, keeping the egg in place.
  3. Lower the whisk into the dye and let it sit for several minutes. When you have reached the desired color, simply lift the whisk out and remove the egg. Repeat with your favorite colors.

Pro tip: Soak hard-boiled eggs in vinegar for a few minutes before dyeing for richer, more vibrant color.
