You can find a lot of cooling blankets designed with innovative technologies on the market, but not all of them are that effective. The fiber scientists in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab and I most recently evaluated 68 different blankets in the Lab and with the help of over 200 consumer testers. Sleep Number's True Temp Blanket came out on top, thanks to the effective 37.5 cooling technology.
Our top picks:
- Best overall: Breescape Cooling Comforter
- Best value: Elegear Arc-Chill 3.0 Cooling Blanket
- Best comforter: REST Evercool Cooling Comforter
- Best viscose: Luxome Lightweight Cooling Blanket
With an education in fiber science and years of experience testing blankets in the Textiles Lab, I've learned how to weed through the cooling claims some brands make to determine which products actually deliver what they promise. It can be tricky to find the right blanket for you, though, so keep reading to learn more about the pros and cons of the top-performing cooling blankets from our tests.
This Good Housekeeping Seal holder is made with the brand's Patented BlendTek™ technology on the "cool side" of the blanket, which is a blend of nylon, polyester, and spandex. It delivers instant cooling that helps keep you cool all night long, and moisture-wicking materials to keep you feeling dry if you sweat. Plus, all the materials are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, which means they've passed safety tests for harmful substances.
✔️ TESTER NOTES: Our testers were impressed with this blanket's cooling abilities, lightweight feel, and soft feel. One tester said, "It stays cool for hours when in use, and I especially enjoyed it with the fan in our room to help keep it cool for longer." Our testers who run hot or suffer from night sweats agreed the cooling sensation lasted throughout the night. One said the blanket "never caused me to wake up in the middle of the night sweating."
Testers weren't the biggest fan of the appearance of this blanket, but it can always be hidden underneath a more decorative blanket or comforter. Plus, one tester said the blanket is easy to fold into a compact size, so you can always store it away. And while it's thin, testers still found the blanket comforting. "The blanket was thin/light weight and was stretchy fabric, which made you feel like you were wrapped in a cocoon when using it as a stand-alone blanket," one tester shared.

The unique double-sided design and versatility of this Elegear blanket earned it a past Good Housekeeping Bedding Award. One side is 100% cotton, while the other features the brand's Arc-Chill cooling yarns for a cool-to-the-touch feel, so you can enjoy the natural feel of cotton one day, then on warm days flip it over to the chiller side for some relief.
It's machine washable, but unfortunately, not dryer-safe. The brand recommends placing the blanket in a mesh laundry bag to prevent it from becoming damaged during the wash cycle. There are plenty of options to pick from: It's available in throw and bed sizes up to King and 14 colors.
✔️ TESTER NOTES: When I put this blanket on my bed, it didn't look as stylish as my usual quilt, but it felt so much cooler. The thin, lightweight material had an instantly cool feel with a smooth, soft texture. One tester in perimenopause described it as "a night saver," adding that "it cools my body off so quickly."

If you're a sweaty sleeper, you're going to love this moisture-wicking comforter from REST, a 2026 GH Bedding Awards winner. It helps keep you cooler by quickly moving sweat away to keep you dry, plus it has an immediately cool-to-the-touch feel. This thin blanket aced moisture management tests in the Lab, and we appreciated its silky feel and lightweight construction.
✔️ TESTER NOTES: Consumer testers were impressed with this pick's cooling abilities. One tester said, "It feels soft and cool (almost icy even), providing much-needed relief in hot weather," while another said, "I no longer wake up drenched in sweat!" This blanket is available in six colors, but testers gave it lower appearance scores when used without a duvet cover.

This lightweight cooling blanket from Luxome is made from viscose, which has a silky smooth feel and easily wicks moisture away for a cooler feel. Note that viscose is a regenerated cellulose fiber that uses bamboo wood pulp at the start of production; but, because of chemical solvents, it doesn't contain any bamboo in the final product.
✔️ TESTER NOTES: "As a hot sleeper, the lightweight blanket has been a great relief to me," said one tester. All testers reported that this blanket helped regulate their body temperature all night, making it ideal for the summer months. "I loved the silky smooth finish and how lightweight the blanket is," said another tester. "The blanket felt very cool to the touch, and I did not overheat during the night when using this blanket."
Testers were split on the aesthetics. Some thought it looked luxe, while another thought the sheen of the fabric made it hard to match and look wrinkly.

Ideal for hot sleepers, linen has an airy, natural feel. This chic-looking linen blanket from The Citizenry is available in 17 stylish colors to complement your other bedding perfectly. When I evaluated this quilt, I was impressed with its high-quality construction and chic box stitching. I noticed right away how soft this one felt compared to other linen fabrics.
✔️ TESTER NOTES: All consumer testers shared that they loved the appearance of this quilt with some saying that it looked high-end and luxurious. "With this linen one, it doesn't overdo it with the heat, so I'm able to sleep with it on me all night," reported one tester who said she usually kicks off her quilt during the night. Another tester said, "I also often get hot at night, and this quilt feels lightweight enough that I don't get as hot as I do in a traditional duvet." Some testers noted that it took some time to get used to sleeping under a blanket this lightweight.

A Good Housekeeping Bedding Award winner, the Dreamweave Waffle Blanket from Brooklinen wowed Lab analysts and testers alike. Waffle weave tends to be less soft compared to other materials, but this blanket was the exception: One tester described it as "very soft and remarkably lightweight."
The blanket allows for ample airflow and its waffle design elevates your bed or couch setup—one tester said how "it adds nice texture to the room."
✔️ TESTER NOTES: Our panel of testers gave it high scores for the blanket's comfort and appearance, with one describing it as "classy and sophisticated." Multiple testers appreciated its generous size and that it kept them warm but still felt airy.

Buffy's duvet inserts are one of the most popular cooling comforters among our testers, and they also were big fans of this duvet cover. Cool and remarkably soft to the touch, Buffy's duvet covers feature a smooth fabric made of Tencel lyocell fibers that is available in more than 50 colors and patterns.
While this duvet cover may have "eucalyptus" in its name, it's made with a regenerated cellulose fiber that doesn't have any eucalyptus in the final product.
✔️ TESTER NOTES: When I used this duvet cover, I especially liked the fabric's slight sheen and lightweight, cool feel. "It's soft and silky to the touch and was perfect for warmer nights," said one tester who also called out its "luxurious look." The cover was a bit wrinkly after laundering, according to testers.

Even if you prefer organic materials, you still have cooling bedding options. This airy blanket from Avocado is a great example. It's made with four layers of GOTS-certified organic cotton muslin for a natural, lived-in look that's breathable and lightweight. You can pair it with a thicker comforter in the winter or use it solo in the warmer months.
No need to worry about complicated laundering as this pick is machine washable and dryer safe. Note that select sizes are out of stock, but you can sign up on Avocado's site to be notified when inventory is replenished.
✔️ TESTER NOTES: All our consumer testers highlighted the blanket's lightweight feel that didn't trap heap and noted that they would continue to use this blanket after testing. "With this blanket, I was able to stay cool overnight," said one tester who identified as a hot sleeper.
"This will be a great blanket for summer," noted another tester who explained, "I can’t sleep without a blanket, no matter how hot it is, because I need the weight and feeling of a blanket." One tester appreciated that the blanket had no odor when it arrived and came with an included bag made of the same material for convenient storage. There were a few testers who wished this blanket felt softer though.

How we test cooling blankets

At the Good Housekeeping Institute, the experts in the Textiles Lab test many different types of cooling bedding—from cooling sheets to cooling pillows. In our most recent blanket tests, we analyzed 68 blankets for appearance and performance properties with more than 200 at-home testers.
To determine the best cooling blanket options, I vetted each pick's cooling claims and analyzed feedback from years of rigorous testing before making these selections.
What to look for when shopping for the best cooling blanket

✔️ Cooling technologies: Certain blankets feature cooling technologies that store and release heat to keep you at a more stable body temperature throughout the night. Look for temperature-regulating technology like Outlast or 37.5 for a proven cooler sleep.
✔️ Breathable materials: While some fabrics hold onto moisture, others wick it away to keep you sweat-free. Opt for synthetic fabrics like polyester or regenerated cellulose fibers like lyocell or viscose. Cotton holds onto moisture more, so if you love the natural feel of cotton, go with a lightweight option or look for airy constructions like a waffle weave. Linen is another breathable material with an airy weave.
✔️ Lightweight construction: Blankets that are designed for the winter months will be thicker and more tightly woven. For an airier feel, look for looser knits or weaves without any added bulk.
✔️ Fits your home: In the end, the best cooling blanket for you needs to fit with your home's decor and your lifestyle. Make sure to think about where you plan on using the blanket before purchasing: Is it for movie nights on the couch? Sleeping? Year-round or just summer use? Then, make sure to pick a style that has the right dimensions and construction for your needs.
✔️ Be wary of "bamboo" or "eucalyptus" claims: These types of materials are actually known as viscose, rayon, or lyocell and they're fibers made from regenerated cellulose, meaning the wood pulp from different plants is dissolved in a chemical solvent before being pushed through an extruder to form fibers. Because of this chemical process, the final product doesn't contain any of the original cellulose material. Regenerated cellulose fibers can help keep you cool because of their moisture-wicking capabilities, but you shouldn't buy them just because they claim to be plant-based or natural.
