Pros
EPA Safer Choice certified and a USDA certified biobased product
Fragrance-free
Cleans without streaks
Cons
Some users say the spray trigger leaks after a few uses
Seventh Generation is a leader in plant-based cleaning products, and this Free & Clear multi-purpose formula skips dyes and fragrances. In our tests, it cut through grease and grime on counters, stovetops, and cabinets without leaving streaks. It doesn’t disinfect, but it’s effective for everyday cleaning. It’s also a 95% USDA Certified Biobased Product and an EPA Safer Choice-certified product, meaning it meets standards for using renewable ingredients and safer chemical formulations.
The brand says the spray bottle is made from 100% recycled plastic. Some users report that the nozzle starts leaking after a few uses, though our Lab pros didn’t experience this issue.

Pros
Thick enough not to tear
Portable
Work on a wide range of surfacea
Cons
Scent is rather strong
Lysol Disinfecting Wipes are a GH favorite for quick cleanups, especially when you need to both clean and disinfect a surface. They’re effective on everyday messes like food spills, grease, and grime, and can be used on more than 100 hard, nonporous surfaces, including counters, stovetops, faucets, and light switches.
In our tests, the wipes cleaned surfaces quickly and were thick enough to hold up without tearing easily. They kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria and remove common household allergens like pet dander and pollen. We also like keeping a container in the car for messes that happen on the go. They do have a noticeable scent, which may not appeal to everyone.
Scrub Daddy has become a cleaning icon since its Shark Tank debut, thanks in part to its FlexTexture foam, which changes stiffness with water temperature. It gets firm in cold water for tougher scrubbing and soft in warm water for gentler cleaning, making it useful for everything from dishes to countertops.
In testing, we found it durable, quick-drying, and effective on tough messes without scratching surfaces. The trade-off is that its shape makes it a little less practical than a traditional sponge for washing a large load of dishes.

Pros
Built-in foam means no bathroom cleaner liquid necessary
Affordable and convenient to use
Has a light scent
Cons
Can be difficult to store after use
The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Bath Scrubber makes it easy to tackle multiple bathroom surfaces without reaching for a separate cleaning spray. It has the same microscrubbers as the original Magic Eraser, plus built-in soap that foams up when you wet and squeeze the scrubber. In our tests, it worked well on hard surfaces including shower walls, glass doors, tubs, and tile.
The scrubber has earned the Good Housekeeping Seal for its cleaning performance and convenience. The scent is light, and at a little over $1 per scrubber, it’s an affordable option. The main drawback is storage: Once wet, it needs somewhere to dry, so we recommend keeping it in a lidded container.

Pros
Double the odor-eliminating ingredients of regular Febreze
Fresh lemon scent
Tackles tough odors
Cons
Overspray can make floors slippery
A Good Housekeeping Seal holder, Febreze Kitchen Odor Eliminator is designed to tackle lingering food smells, including fish and bacon, while leaving behind a fresh lemon scent. In our GH Cleaning Lab tests, it eliminated odors so effectively that testers couldn’t detect them when they left the room and returned. It also worked quickly on garbage can odors, which helped it win a past Good Housekeeping Cleaning Award.
The formula contains twice the odor-fighting ingredients of basic Febreze Air sprays, according to the brand. Just be careful when spraying around floors, as the mist can make them slippery.

Pros
Cleaning solution comes in two scents and for wood floors
Has two spray nozzles for even application
Easy and neat to use
Cons
Need to buy replacement pads, cleaner, and batteries
Swiffer’s PowerMop, a Good Housekeeping Seal star, makes floor cleaning faster by pairing two spray nozzles with disposable pads covered in hundreds of scrubbing strips. In our tests, it was easy to assemble and maneuver, and the absorbent pads picked up and locked in smeared ketchup without spreading it around. We also found both the wood and multipurpose cleaning solutions (available in two scents) effective and quick-drying, which is especially good for hardwood floors.
The disposable pads make cleanup easy, since you simply peel them off and toss them when you’re done. On the downside, it does require batteries, the solution bottle isn’t refillable, and you can only use Swiffer PowerMop cartridges and pads with the system.
Dawn cuts grease so well that it’s the budget-friendly standard we hold other dish soaps to in our tests. It produces lots of long-lasting suds and keeps grease suspended, so it doesn’t redeposit on dishes. A little goes a long way, and it’s especially useful for soaking and softening burned-on messes.
You’ll often find a bottle by the sinks in the GH Test Kitchen and Kitchen Lab. Our staffers also use it to remove grease stains from clothing, making it useful beyond the kitchen sink. It does contain colorants, which may be a consideration if you prefer simpler formulas.

Pros
Works on hard, durable surfaces
A little goes a long way
Stays put when cleaning vertical surfaces
Cons
Can be abrasive and requires extra rinsing
The Pink Stuff—a viral cleaning superstar—is a mildly abrasive cleaning paste that can tackle tough grime on a range of hard, durable surfaces. In our testing, it removed metal marks from a Corian sink, burned-on residue from an enameled cooktop, and soap scum from a porcelain tub, often with minimal scrubbing. A little goes a long way, and the paste stays put, making it useful for targeted cleaning on vertical surfaces, too.
Because it’s abrasive, it can scratch some surfaces, so we recommend testing it on an inconspicuous area first and avoiding finished wood and shiny surfaces. It also requires additional rinsing or wiping to completely remove the gritty residue.

Pros
Works well on a variety of stains and in cold water
Fresh scent
Works in all types of machines
Cons
Contains dyes and fragrances
Tide’s liquid detergent earned the top spot in our Lab tests for its all-around stain-fighting ability. It handled everything from oil, gravy, and chocolate syrup to coffee, blood, and ketchup, and performed especially well on grease and protein-based stains in cold water.
The concentrated formula works in both standard and high-efficiency washers, whether you have a front- or top-loader. Testers also liked its fresh, familiar scent and how easy it is to find. If you prefer to avoid dyes or fragrances, though, it’s worth noting that this formula contains both.

Pros
Jumbo pods handle large loads
Whitens without bleach
Cleans dirt you can't see
Cons
Pod size may be too large for very small loads
Tide Hygienic Clean is a Good Housekeeping Seal star made to tackle oils and residue that can linger deep in fabric, even when clothes look clean. The jumbo pods contain as much cleaning power as two regular pods and performed impressively on tough stains in our Lab tests. Clothes came out visibly cleaner, while white T-shirts and bedding looked noticeably brighter.
These pods make the most sense for families with large laundry loads or for anyone who regularly washes sweaty athletic clothes. If you typically run smaller loads, Tide’s standard-size pods may be a better fit.

Pros
Variety of scents
Customizable level of fragrance
Easy to use
Cons
Can be messy if spilled
Downy Unstopables are an easy way to customize the amount of fragrance you want in each load. Just add as few or as many beads as you like directly to the washer. They dissolve in water at any temperature and work with all washable fabrics and colors.
In our testing, we liked how easy they were to use, and testers found that the fresh scent lingered on fabrics for weeks. The range of fragrances gives you plenty of options, and one tester said the rose scent reminded them of their favorite Le Labo perfume. The main downside is that the beads can be messy if spilled.
A Good Housekeeping Seal holder, Cascade dishwasher pods made quick work of tough, baked-on food in our testing, including baked beans and macaroni. They were also easy to dispense, and consumer testers gave them nearly unanimous top scores for cleaning performance.
The main downside is the packaging: The pods come in a large plastic container that takes up more space than some other dishwasher detergent options, especially if you have limited cabinet space.

Pros
Easy to charge
Versatile attachments
Comes with a storage bag
Cons
Not as strong as pure elbow grease
This spin scrubber made tackling tough bathroom grime easier in our testing. It was comfortable to hold even for testers with small hands and powerful enough to remove stubborn soap scum. The brush and pad attachments attach magnetically, making them easy to swap out, and a mesh storage bag keeps everything together. It was also simple to charge and versatile enough to handle a range of cleaning tasks.
The main tradeoff is that it doesn’t provide quite as much scrubbing power as good old-fashioned elbow grease, but it can make larger cleaning jobs less tiring.
This glass cleaner sprays on as a foam that clings to the surface rather than running off, which helped minimize streaks in our testing. It’s also ammonia-free, which can be a plus if you prefer a milder-smelling formula.
Just note: A little bit goes a long way. One spray dispenses a generous amount of product, so you may need less than you think to clean a window or mirror.

Pros
Pleasant smell
Safe for pets
Tackles stains, odors, and grease
Cons
Not safe for all surfaces
A Cleaning Award winner, this probiotic cleaner tackles pet stains and odors on upholstery and carpet while leaving behind a pleasant orange blossom scent. In our tests, it also cut through grease and grime on surfaces, and testers were impressed by how well it eliminated foul odors.
It’s safe to use around pets, but it isn’t suitable for every surface, so check the label before using it on materials beyond upholstery and carpet.
This spray went on and wiped off easily without leaving streaks or requiring extra buffing. In our testing, it cut through greasy fingerprints, smudges, and buildup, leaving appliances looking noticeably shinier. We also like that it helps repel new marks, so you may not need to clean surfaces as often. One tester found it especially effective at removing the sticky fingerprints her kids left behind on the fridge.
The main downside is the scent, which may be too strong if you prefer a more subtle cleaning product.
This concentrate did a great job cutting through oily grease and soap scum in our testing. Since you dilute it with water, one bottle makes multiple batches of cleaner and lasts a long time. We also like that you can keep reusing the same spray bottle instead of buying a new one each time.
Unfortunately, Branch Basics doesn’t offer a fragranced version, so this concentrate is best for anyone who prefers a scent-free cleaner.

Pros
Works on a variety of leather surfaces
Easy to use
Comprehensive kit
Cons
May not remove set-in stains
A Good Housekeeping Seal holder, this comprehensive leather cleaner is a useful option for keeping leather upholstery and car seats looking their best. In our testing, we liked how versatile it was across different leather surfaces and found it easy to use.
It’s best for routine cleaning and maintenance rather than deep cleaning, though, so don’t expect it to remove set-in stains or heavy discoloration.

Pros
Easy to travel with
Lightweight
Works even on delicates
Cons
Water tank is on the smaller side
This lightweight steamer is especially handy for travel, thanks to its compact, folding design that slips easily into a suitcase. In our Lab testing, it did an impressive job smoothing stubborn wrinkles from delicate fabrics like silk and linen. Since it folds up, it’s easy to pack and comfortable to carry, but the trade-off is that the water tank is on the smaller side, so you may need to refill if you're tackling a larger garment or multiple pieces.

Pros
Not as harsh as chlorine bleach
Brightens clothing
Reduces odor
Cons
Soaking is most effective but takes longer
In our stain remover tests, OxiClean blew the competition out of the water, completely removing wine, grass, coffee, and gravy stains from swatches we presoaked and then washed. Even adding a scoop to a regular wash made a noticeable difference on stained clothes. Consumer testers also found it easy to use, effective, and a great value.
It’s a good alternative to chlorine bleach for brightening clothes and helping cut odors without being as harsh. The catch is that it works best as a presoak, so you’ll need to let it sit for a bit before washing.
