A dorm room is way more than a convenient spot to study and sleep: For many, it’s their first brush with interior design. But while students check off their college packing list, they should also get a handle on their organization routine. After all, dorm rooms are notoriously small—a little clutter can easily feel claustrophobic and chaotic.
“A beautiful dorm room isn’t just about aesthetics,” explains Ebony Staten, founder of the Vogue Room Foundation, on organization that decorates dorm rooms for first-generation, minority students. “When every item has a designated place and the space reflects a student’s personality, it becomes a home away from home where students can feel comfortable, confident, and thrive.”
For some extra guidance, we tapped designers with dorm decorating experience to share their go-to essentials that get an A+ in dorm room organization. (Psst...many of these items can also work in a tiny bedroom or studio apartment.)
