1Upgrade Your Main Accessories

While they’re small details, they should be designed to hold up well over time and add a sophisticated flair to your setup.
“Higher quality brands use solid brass construction, which have a more substantial feel and better durability,” says the Atlanta-based designer. “The components come together more seamlessly, with fasteners more concealed, resulting in a cleaner refined look.”

3Mix Metals

“Mixing finishes thoughtfully—perhaps aged brass with polished nickel or a darker bronze—can add depth and make the space feel more layered and sophisticated,” Hodges explains. “The key is for the mix to feel intentional rather than perfectly coordinated.”

4Incorporate a Vintage Find
Courtesy of Laura Hodges StudioEvery bathroom can benefit from a unique vintage piece. It’s a simple way to balance out the hard surfaces in the space, Hodges says.
“I love incorporating a vintage stool, small cabinet, artwork, rug, or even an unexpected accessory,” Hodges says. “It doesn’t need to be a major investment—the goal is to introduce something with a little history and patina.”

When it’s done right, it can bring a sense of calm and elegance to your setup. “A surefire way to make your bathroom feel more elevated and expensive is to stick with classic, timeless materials, and finishes,” says Joyner. “Marble is always a beautiful choice, and keeping the color palette neutral creates a sophisticated look that will stand the test of time.”

Quinton’s no-fail approach? “Consider elevating your daily routine by integrating immersive upgrades in your shower. Body sprayers and a handheld showerhead offer added comfort and flexibility. For a more luxury bathroom, a steam shower or sauna creates a truly spa-like experience,” she says.

7Layer Your Lighting

“Having only one lighting source from one surface will create shadows in a room where you want the best visibility,” Quinton explains. “Layered lighting may come from a combination of wall sconces, overhead recessed lighting, in or under-cabinet lighting, back-lit mirrors, and integrated LED mirrors.”
