We’ve all been there. Got glammed up, and had a brilliant night out with friends, only to wake up with the night’s aroma lodged in your hair. The obvious solution would be to shampoo it out… except your blowdry is still looking rather nice, and you’d prefer to stretch it out for another day.

But how to avoid getting wafts of late-night fun every time you move your head? Well, you could ask Trinny Woodall - because she’s got a great lazy girl solution.

The style guru has just shared a new clip on Instagram, where she puts the hair hack to the test for the first time. As she explains to her 1.5m followers, she’s hoping to kill two birds with one stone: stifle the unwanted smell but also deal with her dull, dry ends.

Trinny complains her hair is lacking hydration

To do it, she’s turned to legendary hairdresser Sam McKnight, a favourite of renowned night owl Kate Moss, and his Love Me Do oil, with its ‘divine’ fragrance.

‘I want to get a smell into my hair because last night I was somewhere lovely. I met lots of people, but I got lots of their fragrance on me,’ Trinny explains.

‘Hair is naturally porous [so] the aroma of one's favourite bistro or a night by the fire with friends can overpower freshly washed scent come morning. It’s absolutely not worth sacrificing a beautifully maintained, three-day-old blow-dry,’ she adds in the post caption.

Trinny uses the oil to smooth and scent her hair

Trinny’s skin is glowing as ever (that’ll be the Trinny London products), but her hair isn’t as hydrated as she’d like. ‘Another thing I want to look at today is, my hair is a little bit dry,’ she says. ‘I want to try and use some oil.'

'Now, I'm nervous about oil because I think it makes [hair] lank. I'll just use a little bit. I'm just going to put on some Sam McKnight oil - guaranteed good smell.’

To avoid overloading her fine hair, Trinny smooths the oil mostly through the ends but adds a smidge to combat a hint of frizz halo: ‘I don't want to brush my hair with a hairbrush, because it will frizz up as soon as I brush it,’ she says, reaching for a wide-toothed comb instead. ‘I'm going to just go through with the comb so I can keep my curl.'

Trinny takes care to preserve her blowdry

As well as admiring the fragrance, she’s impressed by the instant smoothing: ‘There's a little bit more hydration to the bottom of hair. So Sam, yet again, a winner.’
