Pamela Anderson is the poster girl for ageing beautifully, and the latest stage in her hair evolution is a masterstroke. The Baywatch icon has just entered her most flattering hair era yet, which sees her platinum-blonde hair growing out gracefully into a new ‘soft focus bob’ – a stunning style that blurs away hard scissor lines and instantly softens the signs of ageing, thinning hair.

Pamela, 58, showed off her airbrushed hairstyle at the Fashion Trust US Awards in Los Angeles, where she looked radiant and spring-fresh. Her hair fell to a fashionable shoulder-skimming length, and its floaty layers were complemented by equally pretty makeup in soft, spring-like tones of pink.

Breaking down Pamela’s new look for GH, hair expert Jonathan Andrew says, ‘You could describe this as a blurred, grown-out pageboy bob. It has that softly rounded, face-framing shape reminiscent of the iconic Princess Diana era, but it’s been modernised with softer layering and a feathered fringe, so it feels lighter and far less structured.’

‘That’s what makes it so flattering, it nods to a very timeless silhouette, but the finish is effortless and modern.’

Having this softly-feathered and layered texture gives what Jonathan calls a ‘blurred, anti-ageing finish’ which disguises mature hair issues like dryness, split ends and, crucially, thinning.

‘What makes it work especially well on fine hair is that it removes weight from within the shape without losing fullness,’ says Jonathan, global hair ambassador for Fudge Professional. ‘That means the hair can lift more easily and sit away from the scalp in a way that gives the illusion of density.’

The fringe also plays a big part, he adds. ‘Because it’s soft and feathered rather than blunt, it gently frames the eyes and cheekbones and adds to that blurred, anti-ageing finish.’

How to style a soft focus bob

If you’re keen to try the blurred bob yourself, Jonathan advises investing in the right products to hold that gorgeous shape while retaining a soft, touchable feel.

‘To style this at home, prep is everything,’ says Jonathan. ‘I’d start with the new Fudge Professional Mirror Gloss Pre-Blowdry Spray to give the hair heat protection and a smoother glossier blow-dry finish without weighing it down. Then I’d blow-dry using a big barrel brush, working in sections and bringing the hair forward to frame the face, which helps create that soft bend and airy movement through the front.

‘The key is not to overwork it; you want the shape to feel polished but still light and touchable. To finish, I’d use the Fudge Professional Texture Spray through the mid-lengths and roots to give it that lift and flexible hold.'

'That’s what keeps the style feeling modern and effortless rather than too set. On a cut like this, it’s all about maintaining softness and movement while giving fine hair enough support to hold that beautiful shape.’
