Davina McCall is on a mission to fight back against the challenges of the menopause, from brain fog to fatigue, and now she’s turned her attention to hormonally-harassed hair. The TV presenter has boldly taken on a challenge to go for five days without shampooing, and shown exactly how to make a blow-dry last through hot sweats.
The tricky task was set by her hairdresser husband Michael Douglas, who set her up with a glossy blow-dry, then left her to fend for herself with just his new styling range for support.
Davina has just shared a day-to-day diary of how it went, possibly with marital relations poised on a knife edge!
‘Okay, so, day two. I’m using the vent brush,’ she shares to camera. ‘I’ve slept on it and stuff and I want a bit of, like, oomph, but it’s looking in quite good shape.’ She grabs a can of Michael’s The Five texturising dry shampoo spray, admitting: ‘I hate doing this with Michael next door. I always think [he’s] going to do it better.’
Day three and the experiment is going strong, despite Davina confessing she’s grateful for the product’s pleasant scent. ‘Literally can’t believe I haven’t washed my hair for three days,’ she says, grabbing husband’s MDLondon Wave tool ‘to get the frizz out’ before adding some Number Six polishing balm to seal the ends.
By day four, Davina reveals she’s even managed to overcome her biggest hair challenge: sweaty, sticky menopausal overheating. ‘Because I get the night sweats, I normally get ringlets under here,’ she says, ruffling the under layers of her hair. ‘But I’ve got no ringlets.’
Another swoosh of her husband’s texture spray and she’s good to go. ‘I’m not gonna do anything else, it looks too good,’ she says.
By the end of the experiment, her husband is impressed with her work, admiring the softness of hair. ‘You did good!” he confirms.
Davina herself confesses that skipping shampoo for five days has been surprisingly satisfying. ‘Can I just say something? I’ve really enjoyed this week doing this,’ she admits, rounding off a week of being grubby but glamorous.
You’ve got this one, Davina – no sweat.
