It seems we weren’t the only ones inspired after Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, debuted a swishy new bob. Fearne Cotton is the latest celebrity to join the bob brigade, unveiling a super-flattering, versatile hair transformation.
The 44-year-old presenter debuted the new bob in a smiling Instagram snap. Falling just above her shoulders, the blunt, bouncy cut is strikingly similar to Sophie’s. The style works beautifully with her golden locks, giving her hair a light, fresh feel that’s perfect for summer.
Behind every happy client is a brilliant hairdresser. Mitchell Ladbrook, senior stylist at Nicola Clarke Salons, was the master behind Fearne’s new bob and he’s given GH the lowdown on the look. ‘We wanted an effortless style that lets the hair move freely with a blunt and structured shape’ he tells us.
He explains that Fearne’s hair naturally falls on the thicker side, so he removed some internal weight, giving her bob an extra boost of bounce. ‘It’s a cut that’s ideal for styling with a wave, straight or left with Fearne’s natural movement,’ he explains. In other words, a very versatile bob indeed.
The blunt cut has an effortlessly cool je ne sais quoi about it, making it very fitting for Fearne. And it’s a style that’s particularly flattering on mature women. Anyone who’s had long hair will be familiar with the way extra length can weigh it down. A bob, on the other hand, gives the hair a new lease of life – that added movement will always look youthful and flattering.
Naturally, Fearne had a colour refresh, too, her gleaming blonde created by salon founder Nicola Clarke. ‘I always give her a balayage, but this time, I added a few natural pieces throughout just to break it up,’ she explains.
