Strictly Come Dancing may still be a few months away, but Shirley Ballas is getting her beauty preparations started early. The judge has revealed she’s going back to her favourite aesthetic treatment and this time she has a new target in sight: age spots.

Last year, Shirley opened Instagram to an influx of comments accusing her of going under the knife. ‘You've had so much work done, Shirley, facelifts and all,’ she recalled. Keen to set the record straight, she said, ‘I haven’t had any surgical facelifts of any kind, at any time,’ instead revealing she’d been treating herself to a non-invasive treatment she rates just as highly: NeoGen plasma.

The star has been having NeoGen treatments since 2023 – and her love affair with the skin treatment is still going strong. Yesterday, Shirley took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes video from the treatment chair at Ouronyx clinic, explaining: ‘I have this approximately every three months to keep my skin nice and bright and lifted.’

The treatment uses nitrogen plasma technology to rejuvenate the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin production from within, leaving it looking firm, bright and youthful. This time, Shirley reveals her clinician is changing the machine’s setting to help target pigmentation and age spots.

‘We’re going to go to ‘1’ today,’ she says. Her clinician explains exactly what this means: ‘This will help start tightening the skin; it will help build collagen in the skin to lift and tighten. It will also work on any pigmentation because that’s done on the lower energies.’

Of course, the downtime is far less than a facelift – and with long-lasting results, Shirley is set to look completely rejuvenated by the time Strictly rolls around again.

The treatment delivers glamorous results, but the star candidly shared the less-than-glamorous prep, smothered in numbing cream. ‘I think I look rather good – like I’ve got fresh cream all over my face,’ she joked. She has previously called herself a ‘wimp’ when it comes to her pain threshold – which explains the generous layer.

However, the short-lived discomfort seems well worth it for Shirley, who previously revealed she had strongly considered a facelift as she entered her 60s. ‘I was dreading the inevitable decline of my appearance – I had dark blotches on my skin, my skin looked tired, jowls were starting to fall.’

Since starting the treatment three years ago, Shirley hasn’t been shy about sharing her results. ‘I absolutely love the results – my jawline feels sharper, the skin is not sagging, the skin feels rejuvenated. It feels bright clean, no veins, no sunspots – all in all, a really spectacular look,’ she told NeoGen.

In the Instagram story, Shirley adds that she plans to have some Profhilo injectables and a ‘little bit of Botox, every now and again’ – all part of her approach to maintaining her complexion without going under the knife.
