Why you should go to Waitrose for Grenache

Grenache is widely produced in Spain (where it’s also known as Garnacha) and sometimes blended with Tempranillo). It is also produced in Southern France and Australia (where it’s often seen alongside Shiraz/Syrah and Mourvedre).
Grenache wines tend to be full of berry and cinnamon spice flavours, and tangy. Sometimes, they’ll have cherry and liquorice notes, and they’re often aged in oak, giving them a vanilla richness. They develop leathery, mushroomy and meaty characteristics when aged and make fantastic food matches (whether young or aged). This wine is the ideal accompaniment to grilled red and white meats or lighter game dishes.
Our tasting panel was looking for fruit-driven wines with balanced acidity and fine elegant tannin. They tasted eight, looking for easy drinking wines that would also work with food.
