This 5-minute flavoured butter recipe will make any slice of toast taste like a hot cross bun
Spread the flavour of Easter on everything!

Ever wished hot cross buns could be a year-round treat? Well, we have found the solution: hot cross bun butter. Saving you the time (and effort) of mixing, proving and baking a batch of buns, we’ve popped all the familiar flavours into a spread that makes everything – crumpets, English muffins, toast, a spoon (no judgement) – taste like hot cross buns. It’s about to be Easter every day in your kitchen!
Ingredients
- 150 g salted butter
- 50 g mixed dried fruit
- 1 Tbsp. golden syrup
- Zest of 1/2 an orange, plus 1tbsp of juice
- 1/2 tsp. mixed spice
- 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- Large pinch allspice
- Pinch of flaky sea salt (to taste)
Directions
- Step 1Add all the ingredients, bar the salt, to a mini blender and blitz until smooth and combined. Taste and add a pinch of flaky sea salt according to taste.
- Step 2Tip the butter on to a square of baking paper, roll it around the butter to form a sausage shape, then twist the ends to seal. Store for up to 3 days in the fridge or for a month in the freezer.
GH TIP: Make a batch and store in the freezer – this is great to whip out for unexpected visitors or to gift over the Easter period.
