Actress Sheridan Smith isn’t scared of hard work – whether that’s on stage, on screen or in the gym, where she has trained hard to reshape her body for her recent role in Two Birds. But now, the 44-year-old is taking her fitness a step further by pledging to take part in the tough but transformational 1st Class Bootcamp, founded by her personal trainer, Tom Brown.
It’s not just physical health that’s addressed at the bootcamp. ‘Most people arrive at Bootcamp with no idea just how strong and resilient they are,’ says Tom. ‘One of the biggest transformations we see isn’t just physical – it’s the realisation of what they’re actually capable of.’
Tom, who regularly puts Sheridan through tough gym workouts, has devised a highly varied training programme for the bootcamp. ‘This is a key part of its effectiveness,’ he says. ‘We deliberately avoid repetition and overloading any single training style, ensuring the body is continually challenged while also recovering appropriately.
‘Guests typically complete around four hours of structured training per day (usually across four sessions), alongside additional low-intensity activity (such as walks, mobility and stretch sessions), recovery work and seminars. This means you remain active throughout the day in a balanced way. Sessions include bodyweight HIIT, strength and conditioning, boxing, functional circuits and lower-intensity core, glute and activation sessions.’
And he highlights four ‘challenging and transformational’ exercises to do daily at home: glute bridges (including single-leg variations); press-ups; plank holds; walking (10,000+ steps daily).
With all his clients, Tom works on building discipline and consistency. ‘People often think results come from going all-in for a short burst. What we teach is that small, consistent habits done daily will always outperform extremes you can’t sustain.
‘Sheridan, at 44 and with a demanding lifestyle, is a great example of why this approach works. It’s not about short, intense bursts that lead to burnout or falling off track – it’s about building something sustainable that supports you long-term. These are the exact principles we reinforce week in, week out. When she joins us at 1st Class Bootcamp, it’s less about learning something new and more about resetting and refocusing – keeping these fundamentals front of mind in an environment where it’s very hard not to leave feeling energised, clear and in control.’
