My friends regularly joke that I’m a grandma at heart, and I consider it a badge of honour. As nostalgia continues to take over and home decor styles like cottagecore, grandmacore, and grandmilllennial grow in popularity, being a “grandma” is actually kind of cool. And if your grandma had it in her home, I probably have something similar in mine (including a flip-top laundry hamper with a brooch on it and a candy jar shaped like a chicken).

The key to a bed just like you slept on while visiting your grandma is collecting pieces with character, but you don’t have to shop at an antique store to find them. There are tons of popular bedding brands selling vintage-inspired bedding that’s equally as cozy, and these are some of my favourite options for the latest homes trend.

Quilts

The quilt is the piece that really pulls the grandma look together. It has an inherently nostalgic look because quilting is an art form that has been practiced for thousands of years. It’s likely your grandma used a cotton quilt instead of a fluffy Tencel-filled comforter—maybe even one she made. I love a quilt that incorporates lots of colour and texture, whether that be through the addition of embroidery or patterned fabric.

Sheets

Keep the maximalist grandma look going with a set of patterned sheets. I like to choose a sheet set that has a floral pattern that is a different scale than the quilt—for instance, sheets with ditsy flowers paired with a large floral quilt offers a nice contrast.

Duvet covers

If you forego the quilt and want to sleep with your cozy comforter instead, choose a duvet cover with personality. Linen lends an inherently lived-in, vintage look, making it a great option for a grandma-inspired duvet cover. Retro gingham is popular right now and easier than ever to find. And reversible duvet covers give you the chance to switch things up while maintaining the grandma look.

Throw pillow covers

The cherry on top, a throw pillow cover is one last opportunity to add some grandma flare to your bed. It’s also an easy intro to the world of grandma bedding if you’re not quite ready to go all in. Consider a cover with an embroidered design for a more homemade look, and look for fringe or ruffle trims for dimension.
