Richard Johnson, 21, welcomed his daughter, Persephone, into the world just under a year ago. But, one month later, the baby’s mother left them, while suffering from post-partum depression.

Ever since, Richard has been raising his daughter single-handedly, and is fully focused on giving her the best life he can.

He recently discovered the networking group Life of Dads, where testimonials by others in similar situations helped him find the confidence to deal with common parental issues.

To show his appreciation, he wrote an emotional post on their Facebook page, describing his initial fear of becoming a parent, life after his partner abandoned them, and how he scrupulously researched parenting tips online – covering everything from braiding hair to painting nails.

The post has had over 19,000 likes in the few days since it was written, and many positive comments, encouraging others to follow his lead.

The young father ended his letter with some sincere advice for anyone else that might feel the pressures of being a single parent.

‘If you ever feel like the load is too much or you’re just not good enough, look into your amazing child’s eyes and just tell them you love them. You’d be amazed to see how much strength you have when someone else is counting on you and loving you more and more for what you’re doing. You’ll find strength where you thought you had none.’
