Hyong Yi sadly lost his wife, Catherine, to ovarian cancer in November 2014. To mark the anniversary of her death, the father-of-two embarked on a special project: 100 Love Notes.
After her funeral, he initially wanted to ‘curl up, stay in bed, and wallow in grief for as long as possible,’ but had to keep going for his children.
‘The most difficult, but rewarding, part of the past year has been to try and define a life worthy of Catherine, but without Catherine. What is a life well lived? My conclusion a life filled with love. This, Catherine taught me,’ he wrote on the project's Facebook page.

Deciding to turn 20th November into a day of joy, Hyong recollected treasured conversations and memories he had with his wife during their 15 years together, in 100 handwritten love notes.
On the day, he took to the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina, with his children, to hand these heartfelt letters out to passers-by.
‘While it’s too late for me, it may not be for you,’ Hyong said.
What to read next
‘In daily life, we get so busy that we often forget to express our love for one another. We assume our loved ones will always be there. Today, I invite you to take a moment to honour the loves in your life. Let’s remind ourselves what’s most important in life – sharing our love with one another.’
Social media users have been joining in and honouring loved ones with notes on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag #100LoveNotes.
