During my time as a product tester at the Good Housekeeping Institute and a mom of one, I’ve tried out a fair share of baby carriers. Together with my daughter, we’ve tested everything from some of the trendiest designs you’ll see around Brooklyn to lightweight, travel-friendly options, supportive hiking carriers, newborn-only designs, and more.

The latest carrier to have caught my eye is the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Hold, and it stands out for one simple reason: Unlike traditional carrier designs that can require a lot of finagling (and occasionally uncomfortable arm-bending) to get on, this one features a wraparound design that you slip on like a jacket. That’s right, just like a jacket.

Here’s what you need to know.

Pros

  • Exceptionally easy to put on by yourself
  • Vest-style design is helpful for solo parents
  • Helpful built-in features like a phone pocket and sunshade
  • Quieter buckles and buttons
  • Comfortable to wear

Cons

  • Only supports children up to 30 pounds or 18 months
  • Doesn’t offer a back-carry position

Why I’m loving the BabyBjörn Hold’s vest-style design

If you’ve ever tried to squeeze a wriggling baby inside a baby carrier on your own, you’ll know that making adjustments in hard-to-reach areas like your back isn’t always as easy as it looks. It can take a few moments for everyone to get comfortable.

BabyBjörn’s latest carrier is hands down the easiest I have ever put on by myself. You simply slip it on like a jacket and fasten a few buttons and buckles at the front. It’s surprisingly easy to make adjustments in the back without asking your partner for help. It’s so thoughtfully designed that I wish I had it when my girl was a newborn.

BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Hold features

Quieter buckles and buttons

Another upgrade is the buckles and buttons. They were designed to be quieter, so you can remove the baby without waking them from a nap. I wasn’t able to test that exact scenario, but I can confirm that the buckles and buttons themselves are impressively quiet. I’d personally pay good money for a carrier that helps me not wake a sleeping baby.

A built-in pocket for your phone

BabyBjörn also added a pocket at the bottom of the carrier, which comfortably fits a large device like my iPhone 17 Pro Max. Though this isn’t a revolutionary feature and is standard on most carriers, it’s a nice addition that helps you go hands-free.

An integrated sunshade

The brand also made one more welcome addition: an integrated shade for the baby’s head. On the side of the shoulder strap, you’ll find a sunshade attached that you can pull out and use to cover the baby’s head when walking outside (as opposed to bringing a hat that may or may not stay on). When done, you just stuff it back inside.

Two materials and four colors

The carrier comes in four colors: a pretty light green (my favorite), cream, sand gray, and black. You’ll have the option of two materials: Brushed Woven or Airy Mesh.

What to know before buying the BabyBjörn Hold

It has a lower weight limit

While the carrier has major upgrades over the BabyBjörn Harmony, which was previously one of my family’s go-tos and Good Housekeeping’s best overall baby carrier, it doesn’t come without drawbacks.

The main one is that it only supports infants up to 18 months of age or 30 pounds, which is 1.5 years younger and 10 pounds lighter than the Harmony. If you want one carrier that can last further into toddlerhood, the Hold’s 30-pound limit is something to keep in mind.

You can’t carry your child on your back

Another key consideration is that you lose the option of back-carrying. This is where that extra weight capacity comes in handy, so you can wear your child on your back. I’ve personally never tried this carry position out myself (except on a more supportive hiking carrier), but I could see it coming in handy on long travel days. It’s also probably more comfortable for a larger toddler.

The bottom line: Is the new BabyBjörn Baby Carrier Hold worth it?

BabyBjörn designs high-quality, comfortable carriers. A recurring Good Housekeeping Parenting Awards-winning brand, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase the new Carrier Hold and recommend it to friends. It’s well-suited for infants, which is when you’re most likely to use a baby carrier in the first place. The vest wraparound design makes slipping it on so much easier than other designs I’ve used, and I appreciate the other touches, including the integrated sunshade, built-in pocket, and quieter clips. But it’s the quick on-and-off that really sold me and makes its $180 price tag worth considering.
