Ever since I spotted a kissing bench in an antique store, I’ve been on the hunt for one to call my own. After some digging, I eventually found this adorable Safavieh style on Amazon, for about $800 cheaper than the authentic version I fell in love with at the antique store.
If you aren’t familiar, a kissing bench is an S-shaped seat for two that became popular during the Victorian era, when modesty and strict courtship norms ruled the day (and showing an ankle could lead to scandal).

It’s also called a tête-à-tête or conversation bench, allowing two people to sit near each other, but in separate seats to protect their reputations. Most importantly, the design also lets them face each other, making it easier to have an intimate conversation and maybe even (gasp!) sneak in a kiss.
I love a historical backstory, and I’m a bit obsessed with this Safavieh pick. The vintage-looking iron frame is ornate and catches the eye. I love the antique white color, but it also comes in blue and rustic brown.
The iron construction is sturdy, per the brand, but basic maintenance (like using a protective finish like outdoor paint or a marine-grade wax) is still a good idea since this material will rust over time. Dry it off after a rain storm, and in harsh winter conditions, you could cover it or store it until the weather improves.
As for decorating it, you could add small, round cushions if you like, but I think it looks just perfect as-is. I personally think it’d make for a sweet gift for the gardener or the love of your life who enjoys spending time on the patio—it doesn’t get much more romantic than this.
