The slow winding down of August means two things for certain: Fall is on its way soon, and so is the Barnes & Noble Book Haul sale. It’s the best time of year to be a bookworm, because it’s a rare opportunity to get a huge 50% off discount on select books.
This year’s Book Haul sale has just kicked off, and it will run until September 7. Buying books can get expensive, so it’s the perfect opportunity to finish up your summer reading or to prepare your bookshelves for cozy season with a new stack of hardcovers.
If you love to read and discuss books, don’t forget to join the GH Book Club for one amazing book recommendation every month! You can connect with fellow readers in our GH Book Club Facebook group, where we share great conversation and exclusive content like discussion questions, author Q&As, polls, and even discount codes to buy your next favorite read.
The sale focuses on reader-favorite titles from the past few years. You can shop it in person or online, but the website is likely to have the best selection available. At 50% off, many hardcovers are actually cheaper than their paperback counterparts on this sale.
The next time you’ll see discounts this big at Barnes & Noble is typically around Black Friday and then during their post-Christmas sale, so if you don’t act now, you’ll have to wait several more months to stock up your shelves.
What to buy at the Barnes & Noble book sale
With hundreds of books on sale, it can be hard to know what to add to your cart. As somebody who reads for a living, these are the sale titles I’m excited about!
One of my absolute favorites is on sale, A Guardian and a Thief. It’s a tightly written, tense domestic thriller/climate fiction/family drama that follows one family in Kolkata after their climate refugee visas to emigrate to the U.S. are stolen. With dual perspectives between the family and the thief, it asks hard questions about morality and how far people will go for those they love.
Wait for Me is a GH Book Club pick I recommend to fans of Taylor Jenkins Reid. It’s a lyrical read that follows a scrappy mountain healer turned famous folk singer who then disappeared mysteriously—until a meteor and a broken instrument bring her story back to the light.
For literary fiction, The True True Story of Rajah the Gullible is a witty queer read about a philosophy professor navigating personal and political upheaval in Beirut—all while facing off against his nosy, larger-than-life mother. It’s a National Book Award winner for good reason.
Wild Dark Shore is an atmospheric fall read with both romance and mystery, and The Exes is a twisty thriller with surprises that will have you asking “What did I just read?”
And there are some sale titles that are still on my TBR that I can’t wait to pick up, like Go Gentle (a touching story about midlife and stoic philosophy) and In Her Defense (a courtroom thriller about a mother who accuses a therapist of brainwashing her daughter).
Grab these titles fast before the sale ends—or they sell out.
