Forget stepping on LEGO in the middle of the night—in my house, it was Hot Wheels. If my kids were still young, this year’s Hot Wheels Advent calendar would have to be in my shopping cart, no questions asked.
Mattel introduced its first Hot Wheels Advent calendar in 2015, which is exactly when my 5-year-old son was their No. 1 fan. (Seriously, I couldn’t go to the supermarket without him jumping up and down, begging for a Hot Wheels in the toy aisle.)
If you a Hot Wheels fan yourself, I highly suggest snatching this calendar before December 1 creeps up. I won’t share any spoilers, but among the 24 surprises, they’ll get a bunch of holiday-themed accessories to go with the 10 standard-sized, die-cast Hot Wheels cars in the set.
The calendar opens up to a wintry 2D racetrack, serving as the perfect backdrop as your little one unlocks a new surprise. The cars even have cute names like “Sleighin’ Rubber”—that’s the one driven by a Yeti under a snow globe! I also like that the cars come with special clips that turn them into ornaments. What an extra cute way to let the kids add a touch of their own personality to the tree this year.
It’s a festive way to add to their collection, and the cars can be used long after the holidays are over. In my time as a Hot Wheels investor mom, I spent hours assembling those orange tracks and flinging dozens…no, hundreds of cars into the air. Those were the golden years, my friends, even if I did have to wear shoes just to walk across my living room.
